The beginning
The Beginning
You know what? Mane Sir, has lost his tengool. Yeah the peda on his head has been removed surgically. Mangala Miss, (who composed that song 'Mangala company') has been expelled from our school after a government inquiry indicted her for hitting a boy with a duster. The poor fellow apparently collapsed after Mangala's maar.
These are just some of the gems I heard when I tried to string together the last few decades of what had happened in our school at an alumni picnic last Saturday. Although, sadly, there was no one from my batch-the Class of 1989-I did live yesterday all over again. And I kept popping the same question to all those present --- "Where is so and so?" Unfortunately, no one was much in touch with our ex-school mates. However, a boy two years my junior put me through to a classmate of mine over the phone.
Do you remember Nayan Mepani? I was in class VIII then. And whenever his name came up during the roll call, my friends who knew my Nepali roots would nudge me, saying, "Archana there's someone Nepali here." And I was like, "Wow, finally I get to meet someone from my community who is not a watchman." But within a few weeks we came to realise that he was a Gujarati. The chain and the gold bracelet were the visual proofs.
But when I spoke to him that day --I wasn't really comfortable. Perhaps, the ghosts of the pranks I played still haunted me. I had once called him a 'gainda'-a hippo. However, he seemed delighted to talk to me.
But I was not flattered to know how poor my recall value was. When I asked him if he remembered me, he said, "I do. Aren't you Dinesh Sharma's sister?"I have to confess I wasn't really happy being denied an identity of my own. Okay, I admit I always lived in the shadows of my "goodlooking" and "breakdancing" brother (Dinesh Sharma of 1987 batch).
But how can people not remember my achievements---like sticking my stinking socks up boys' noses? Perhaps, Nayan wasn't one of those lucky ones to be blessed with the smell of paradise. But despite that he is doing well in life today.
And I'm happy for him.As I'm happy for Pradnya Lokhande, Muthulakshmi (many of us remember her by that name although she is much more famous now as S Priya, as all of us who watch Zee TV would know) and Venkat, or HV (our Marathi teacher Manik Miss would call him Hyaach Vhee) who used to be seen in programmes like Antakshari, or Sa Re Ga Ma. It was so nice to see them on TV, especially since we know that they are married to each other and settled in Dubai.
Pradnya has made a name for herself as a film-maker. She was an assistant director in 'Satya' and was in New York and Switzerland for the making of films like 'Om Jai Jagdish' and 'Out of Control'. By the way, I work as a special correspondent for The Times of India in Mumbai. Look out for my name in the paper, will you?.I am told Prakash Nambiar, another VV product, had a key role in the animation department of the Bollywood blockbuster 'Hum Tum'.
Many of you might say I'm talking only about my batch. And I'm sorry for that. But at the picnic we had students even from the 1967 batch. Those from that batch were as enthusiastic as those from the recent years.
Our alumni association is doing an excellent job. They have managed to track down the first boy of the first batch---the real roll no. 1.
But there are others who I think should be tracked down as well. Remember Ayappa? He honoured so many successive batches with his esteemed company. I'm told he has put on a lot of weight. Maybe he would feel better if he sees us and realises that he has not been alone in fighting the battle of the bulge.
Why don't we all come for the get-together our alumni association is planning in mid-September? Rajesh Iyer is arranging a DJ night at the Vani Auditorium, (yeah, we have a swanky one now). Viyaylaxmi, the stout RSP we all used to dread whenever we arrived to school only to realise that the badge or ribbon is missing, is the current alumni president. But don't be afraid. She too has mellowed down over the years.
To register in the alumni contact Rajesh Iyer - 9867596920 or even to catch up on the old times. All you forgetful ones please note down September 16 in your diaries of PDAs.
Let's all walk down memory lane together. With our spouses (if you have any).
And for the guys who are still to be married here's an incentive to come---the current principal is Dolly Henry, over whom many of you used to swoon when she was the junior college chemistry teacher. She's still very beautiful.
Please forward this to as many VVians you know, here or abroad.
WARNING: IF YOU FORWARD THIS MAIL IN TEN MINUTES OF READING IT, YOU WILL BE A HAPPY PERSON. OTHERWISE KARTHA TEACHER WILL COME AND TWEAK YOUR EARS.

Hitesh Sharma (1985 batch....)
i Archana,
This is HV. I recd this mail from Nayan today and was delighted to the core to go through it. Ofcourse, the style reflects the capability of a TOI special correspondent, but I must say...more than anything else....you really brought SCHOOL DAYS ALIVE....
Thanks to you and Rajesh for triggering this Re-union again.
We meet Rajesh when we are in india, he is a family friend. we saw him on Zee news during the recent RAIN DAY in mumbai, complaining about his car breaking down in the floods.....
Talking about school,I remember being a part of orgainising a REUNION on 10th december 1995....and quite a lot of our batch JANTA was there.....but after that....its never really been possible. Guess...1995 was the time when most of us were just out of college and going in further studies or trying to build a career.....so it was still possible to meet....but after that...guys...went around to settle themselves , gals....tied knots...became mothers...and school life was soon...just a basket of sweet memories.....
The best part about your mail...is that you have covered a variety of information from various batches and various aspects of our school life...and sounds like a beautifully written novel...
Well, thats the magic of school life...and its really refreshing....
I immediately called Priya from office and told her about the same....and it was so thrilling...
Its a proud feeling to know about our batch mates who have scaled great heights in various endeavours. Pradnya Lokhande....Asst Director, You...Special Correspondent. Prakash nambiar (whos this guy..our batch? is it prakash unnikrishnan?)....and ofcourse Ayyappa...(dreadful)...Vijayalaxmi (Amma)....who can forget them and many more....
I am in touch with quite a few guys/gals from School.. to start with, Muthulakshmi (Priya)...my better half, my SAALA, Prakash Srinivasan (quite junior to us), my sister USHA (1967 batch), my mom-in-law Geetha....all in the family... and ofcourse, Nayan, Viren Kenia,Amrish Shah(aamir khan of qayamat se qayamat tak in 1988-89),Pradnya Pai (was here in UAE),has just moved to Mumbai, Sameer Chhatre(tiny little)--now in Sydney, Anil Nair (curly hair)- Melbourne, Visalakshi(Priya)...Swapna nagri...now married and settled in Mulund West, Indu- now in US,her elder sister Chitra, Shobha (school's first headgirl), her brother Shankar, Vandana (our batch), APriya (the taller Priya), A Prabha (her younger sister), my cousins Padma (she was one year junior to us)- was headgirl...also in the US and V Lakshmi and quite a few more of them. Will surely forward this mail to all of them......(ofcourse, i cant think of Kartha teacher to tweak my ears...no way...that never happened to me even in school).
About the teachers...i was so glad to see most of them at our wedding reception in 1998. Mane sir, you are right, without his tengol....waghole sir, aher sir, naidu sir, sheikh sir, shukla sir, kumudam teacher, naina teacher, renuka nambiar teacher, kartha teacher, chandramati teacher, lakshmi teacher(those who are talking, stand up and find out talking student) to list a few.
Well,Me and Priya are here in UAE since 2002 with our kids, Abhishek(6) and Aarti(4). Priya is spreading her Music Mania to other kids around in the UAE and I am tied up with a Sales and marketing Career for the last 12 years (am currently with CANON Middle East.
Sadly, we will not be able to attend the RE-UNION on Sept 16. will surely miss being there...but our thoughts will surely be there.....so please convey our personal regards to one and all...and hope you have a great time...please do click some good pictures ( am sure lot of our batch mates would have a digital still camera by now)...and circulate the same.
Make sure to cover the event, Ms.Special correspondent, TOI...and circulate your well-written article to all concerned.
As I end this note, would like to thank you again for those wonderful words and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Good luck and Best Regards

ndeed, thanks archana for triggering the re-union and taking us down memory lane.
I am Disha, not sure how many of you remember me, but I was the quite one and tagged as ‘ terribly private person’ by Archana. I did recognize quite a few names mentioned in HV’s email, but would be glad to also know about Jyoti Motwani, Reshma Ghatge, Janaki, Pradnya Pai, Laxmi( one who would wear black frame glasses and would always be with Pradnya Pai), Vandana (the bubbly one), Sushma Kotian, Deepali Kulkarni, Indra, Ram Menon, Sujil, Amin, Ashish.... [there are so many more I can visualize the faces but can’t remember the names, all from Division C and D].
I did meet Archana a couple of times between Sept 04 - Dec 05, when she was here in London for her further studies( in Journalism). I am settled in London and working for at&t. I would really like to hear from all the people mentioned above and the rest in that batch. It would be a great online re-union for people who can’t make it on the 16th of September.
Look forward to hear from all.
Regards,
Disha
The girl who was a boy (and a stupendous boy at that) in Aatshe Khidkya koli dance --- How many wouldn't remember!!! That's a trademark Disha Modesty.
In fact, if it comes to that dire situation where --The class of 1989-- is conspicuous by its poor attendance, we should spend a Sunday scouting for people Disha has just named. Actually, I would love to meet Vandana and make her do her signature cough again. I know her building...not her address on Goshala Road. I know Pradnya and Janaki's house. Even Lakshmi's house...in Mulund East
Ashish of course is bang opposite Sampson school. And Amin was in Palm Acres, Sujil next to Neelam Nagar. And Amit, (who wrote a love letter to Reshma Ghatge in blood after Mangala Miss sang this song --Amit is right under Reshma's lap..Mangala company....sorry couldn't resist this bit) lives in Mukand Society. We can slip on our favourite sports shoes and start the crusade. Unless someone wants to introduce us to his/her latest SUV
Ciao guys
Archana
Oye, Journalist,
U write really well mann! Never thot u wud b so good at it, i know u hv to b, but yr writing skills deserve a lot of praise. I m really happy for u mann!
Happy to hear abt Disha too, yes no1 can forget dat d last day dance, Disha was just amazing. She was so typical, very lovely I remember! Short hair n lovely smile. I m really happy dat she is in London and doing well. I hope to meet her some day since I keep frequenting dis places on business.
Lets make September 16th a memorable evening! Miss u all very much! Specially my friend Kiran Panchal, hey, anyone knows were she is?
Chal all of u take care!

Nayan
Dear HV,
I was held up at work so could not reply to your very endearing mail. Thanks for ur compliments.
But hey...I better write this way (or better if i could)...it's my bread and butter. But i was so pleased to find your mail written with such flowing style. U surely have a way with words.
But i believe that we write the best when it's a personal account and with such childhood memories as content...words just come to you without any effort. As you said, that's the magic of school days.
My two brothers are in Philippines and USA, respectively. The one at P is so thrilled you must have seen..he's sending mails back and forth. Actually, the mail was a surprise to them as well. I had warned nobody except Rajesh about the mail.
To answer your question about Prakash nambiar .. I too don't know who he is. But Rajesh was going on about him. I had to widen my spectrum of successful VVians, so added him. He is not even from our batch.
I am so impressed with your vast network of VVians. Damn good, man. I just can't place Viren Kenia...apparently he was in our class. Amrish of course i remember. Isn't he slightly squint? And hey how did u manage to keep in touch with Pradnya Pai?? I know she married a man settled in UAE very early and even had a quick baby. She lived in my society--Palm Acres in Mulund. Is she still there? If yes, then she could get the numbers of Janaki. Her bumchum in the primary who later switched alliance to my side ;) They are neighbours (live on the same floor)
Visalakshi is that girl ..doubletoothed...with a lovely smile. What about Sambhavi, Raji or prerna...from SwapnaNagri. And Meena T...that very skinny girl? Shobha ...wasn't she the headgirl with Umesh Rao? Gosh...I can't catch up with all the names u have dropped..I will have to refer to the school group photos.
Oh I wish i had attended your wedding. But you know...I was so silly in school...nobody would have wanted to keep in touch..forget even inviting me to their wedding. Come to think of it...haven't changed much since then ;)
And about Laxmi teacher...that anecdote was really funny. I remember she letting out a grunt everytime she wanted to swallow her snot. Yuck!!!
And congratulations over your two kids. Congratulate Priya too! Man you guys are indeed "settled" in a true sense. Sales and marketing...ahem, well now i know you must be putting your gift of the gab to good use.
We will surely miss you at the re-union. You would have been the stars of the evening. And we would have had some exclusive live performace too. Our loss :( !!
But please try to spread the word to as many people as possible. Though i can't promise to write about it in the newspaper. It's a huge paper you know...doesn't really publish such events. Unless Nandan Nilekani is doing homa and havans in his alma mater, IIT. But i will write a piece for our circulation.
I want to thank you, HV for taking time out to write to me. I am pleased and touched.
But continue to be in touch.
Regards to Priya and love to the kids
Archana
P.S: Don't feel let down with this mail. Have written in a great hurry. It's one am here.
Hi Archana,
Thanks for the lovely mail. You will be surely remembered for your REUNION TRIGGER. i can see mails being exchanged amongst our batchmates and thats commendable (after 17 years of parting)
This is going to be fun...many of us in different corners of the world and still keeping in touch...i hope this enthu stays....some of us will have to be a key factor to....get the re-union going......So, keep it up....I will try my best too.
very glad to know about details from your side. best regards to your Bros.
About my network of VVians..well....Viren kenia...lean, lot of oil, always with nayan. Pradnya, she moved from UAE on July3 this year. She has a daughter(Shreya,10) and Son(Ganesh,7). Janaki guess just got married last year and stays very near Palmacres....on the same M.Phule road, i heard. Had met her a couple of times in mulund market during my annual vacations to mumbai. visalakshi is in touch. no news about pinky, prerna, meeta, kiran, meena etc.... you have got most of the others right.... so good going...
why dont we do this....i have our group picture of Class X .why dont all of us exchange pictures of our respective divisions (if still available)...try to scan and group share....so we can actually remember faces (if forgotten)...what say?
lets try to get some acts together.
lets see how many more get into the email loop so that by september....there are really a lot of us trying to exchange words....by mail...if not in person.
and thanks for your good wishes to me and my family. will send you a picture soon.
I didnt ask about your family?
cheers
HV
Hi all,
This is getting interesting....good going....expand the loop....i am sure after a few more mails ....its going to be all those memories...lingering around....coming alive.....and for sure...16th sept will be a great day...to personally meet up.....(very tempting to be a part of it...but looks tough for now).
By the way, Hi Disha....(its like this....on the FM channels....for those who have just tuned in)....welcome back to the gang....good to know about your current endeavour...(i dont ever remember interacting with you in school..except a rare exchange of smiles)...ha.ha.ha....
cheers
HV
Hi all, lets try to exchange our school group pictures (respective divisions), if still available. i am sure, i have mine...right from Jr.KG....it will be good and easier to recognise faces...and moreover...looking at a few faces....might cropup some new humour....what say?
wait for mine soon.
cheers

Guys n gals, it was so good to read your email & get your update. Wow lots of things have been happening & many of our ex-classmates have risen to high positions. Reading this email took me down memory lane & I could picturise most of the names in my mind....ofcourse the picture in my mind was from 1988-89. So you all look nice & slim & trim.
Incase you are wondering who I am, this is D.Lakshmi / Jaya. The tall one roaming around with S.Priya(Muthulakshmi) & A.Priya. To some I was P.T Usha due to my (then) high profile sports achievements. I was in the A Division.
Got married in 1995 & been in California eversince. Have 2 boys Shasta ( 4 yrs) & Tanay(2 yrs). I try to make it to Bombay once every 2 yrs & run into some of the classmates's moms in the Mulund Market. Actually ran into Janaki (pradnya's buddy). I am in regular touch with Indu who also is in USA. On & off in touch with A.Priya who is in Dubai. When I go to our school, I met Usha Teacher & Shanta Shetty, saw brifely Renuka Teacher. Thats all.
So what does Nayan, Viren etc do now. Any news of G.Subramanian(batata vada as we used to call him & he was aware of it.) What about Ramani, Srinath from A division. All these guys were in my class but no news of any of them.
Pls do keep in touch all of you & add me on to your list.
You all have fun at the get-together. I will join you in thoughts.
Take care
Jaya (D.Lakshmi)
Archana...good girl.....(ha.ha.ha..)..

WOW!!!
Tell me something. I am so curious about Viren Kenia...Rajesh never stops talking about him. Is he the guy who is standing just behind me, standing next to prince. In case u can't spot me, I am standing next to Disha. Would like to hear from Viren now. Where are u, Viren?
Arch
No, Viren is not in dat picture, he is n d other one i sent. Jus at d bottom with oily hair. He is fine, he has done his C.A, fulltime into stocks! He has a cute son and lives in my building. Who Rajesh?
Bye
nayan
I had met Prince at the UK visa application centre in Sept 2004. He tapped my shoulder and asked, " Do I know you?" I was pleased to bits...and I yelled "Prince". He apparently had come for his sister's visa. And if i am not wrong, he said he was in the UK. As far as I know, he lived sat Samatha appartment, at the outskirts of Mulund. We couldn't even stand and talk as we both were in a hurry or in a queue we couldn't disturb.
Also, what about Seethalaxmi (don't snigger, please) , Anandam Parshuram's daughter. I remember meeting teacher in Kelkar college. Apparently she was summoned by the principal and she had to take Seetha along ..to the principal's room. She had a heart problem so couldn't climb the first floor...so I went to her class and asked the teacher to summon her.
Wonder what happened after that. Also, is the teacher fine now?
Arch
Hi Friends!!!
HV (feels strange calling u HV! I'm sooo used to calling u "Mohan")--I've been receiving all the emails from our alumni group since the past couple days..was just gearing up to write a long leisurely reply..
Its great to hear from all u guys (and gals)...very overwhelming !! I recognise a lot of you on the list..for those of you who don't know me, I'm Indu Arunachalam, I used to be in the 'C' division till about 7th std. when I was shifted to 'A', and in the 10th std. shuffling I was assigned to 'B' along with Archana, Disha, Meeta,Nayan, etc. I used to be seen usually with with Chitra.K (the school topper of our batch ), Srividya, Rohini and Hemalatha..Chitra lives quite close to my place, am in regular contact with her..I'm also in touch with the others infrequently..Chitra's email id is chiyer@hotmail.com, Srividya's is srividyaramnath@yahoo.com, Hema's is hema_gsm@hotmail.com, and Rohini's id is rsrbomb1@yahoo.com..
I am married and been living in the USA-Massachusetts for the past 7+ years..We have a 16 mth old son, his name is Dhruv..I work seasonally as a tax advisor..I am in regular contact with Jaya/D.Lakshmi..but unfortunately we both live at two extreme ends of the country--myself in the Northeast and Jaya in the Southwest..she kept up her promise of visiting me, a few yrs back, now I have yet to keep up mine!
I'm also in touch with Pinki/Shambhavi Kadam, she lives in the western suburbs of Mumbai (in case u don't have her email id, its shenaz25@yahoo.com .. am in touch with A.Priya (she's in Muscat) and Vandana (she lives in Chembur-she was in the 'D' division, I think)..I noticed they both are already in the mailing list..and ofcourse, HV & S. Priya/Muthulakshmi..I remember having met Disha somewhere in Mulund market way way back, I think I was'nt even married then..
Btw, thanks so much for attaching those pics, Archana!! I have a copy of that 10th std. photo too..took me down memory lane..My memory is not as good as yours, but I do remember something that Nayan used to do..whenever our Hindi teacher (Celine Thomas-or is it Celine George??) used to start with her typical lecture "hume apne bhavishya ke baare mein sonchna chahiye.....", Nayan used to sing the Mahabharat track loudly "Mangala Bhavat Amangala......"hehehehee..I also remember all the pranks Disha and Archana used to play--they used to sit in the same bench..I used to be in the "good girls" category, no pranks or masti..
Archana, the last I heard about Sitalakshmi is that she was married to one of her distant relatives, has a son (Bharat), and lives in Pune..this was about 5 years ago..have'nt heard since..
I want to say you guys r doing a great thing organizing a re-union! Great going!! I'm elated to see e-mails from u all!
Hey btw I'll be coming down to India by the end of this month..although, I may not be able to come to the get-together as I'll be in Cochin around that time, unfortunately..if only the gathering was in Oct! But I'll join u in thoughts..I would really love to meet you all sometime!
Take care..
Indu..
PS: HV, I see you have added 3 of my email ids to the mailing list, one of which (indu2424@hotmail) is not active anymore..so please remove it, as well as indurajesh99@yahoo.com..
Also, I think it will be a good idea to create some sort of a group (like googlegroups, for example) with all the email ids, so that all of the people in that group receive all the emails everytime..
Cheers!
Hi Friends!!
Wow, it feels like the olympic torch is ignited and is being carried out by different 'Vaniates' from this part of the globe to another part. My God, I cant believe the response this thing is generating. I am equally overwhelmed and excited as you all are!
I have a word of applause and praise for Archana, she not only writes so beutifully but i must say she is d one who has started dis much needed reunion. Hats off, Archana for your relentless effort, you havent missed a single mail since it started and have always responded to people, too good mann! A big pat on your back from all of us! You deserve it. Also a mention for Rajesh Iyer, who does things discreetly, I mean he keeps on adding to the list, great guy mann! He lives bang opposite my building!
I want the following people to respond yaar, Disha has jus sent one mail, arre bhai, AT&T ka work timings itna bhi bura nahi hoga ki woh tumko ek mail bhejne se rok sake. I want Pradnya lokhande to respond, not heard from her despite she being a part of the chain. Pradnya C'mon tell us about your experience in the film industry and how you achieved success with a super hit film like 'Satya'! I am eagerly awaiting to hear from my schools best buddy, Kiran Panchal. Deepa Shah was a dear friend too, we would invariably exchange our note books after the school and many a times i used to do it on purpose for the fun sake. Are you listening Deepa? I did meet her on d last 31st of December at a party in our club, Golden Swan, she had come with her two lovely children and her hubby! She is a dentist in Hiranandani, Powai! Where are you Deepa? Where is Varsha? I thot she was the topper in school, Indu! I dont recollect Chitra's face at all.
Thank you so much Indu for writing abt our Hindi teacher, i had forgotten myself abt dis since I used to do various mischiefs with many teachers.I was a real bum in school days as most of u wud agree! I used to make fun of Lapalikar, (lapa bai), den Savita teacher,Shukla Sir, Sheikh Sir. My favourite was Kumudum teacher and Nayana teacher who taught English. I wud invariably get punished by Karta teacher, I hated her d most but not nymore. John teacher has tweaked my ear once.
Indu, you resembled like a teacher in our college and her name was Uma Iyer! HV, you remember we used to chat abt dis. Indu, which part of M.A do you live in? Are you close to Harvad? Den u shud take up teaching, heheh! Jokes apart, I really am happy for you and I am looking forward to meeting you and your family when you come to Mumbai. It wud b good fun, please do call on me. My numbers are listed below.
I met Annapurna a few weeks back at R Mall in Mulund, she was with her hubby, she used to live in Ahmedabad but now she has shifted the base here in Mumbai. She is working with a finance company! Annu, pls join the bandwagon!
I wish to hear from Amin, he was my buddy in d gym! Prasad desai was in touch and he was in states in d same bldg during the 9/11 but luckily he survived. I miss Ramdas Menon,my benchmate, a classical left handed batsmen and most of the time we wud only discuss cricket! I remember Sam, his brother John, Sethuraman, my benchmate in 7th i guess, he was d quietest soul on d earth! Never seen any1 as silent as him. I miss Arun a lot, i used to like him very much! He was very typical, panzy types but very sweet! I met Venkat a few weeks back & v travelled in d same plane from Hyderabad to Mumbai, he is into shipping line like Rajesh. How many of u remember Subu? D guy who used to b a good mimick, He man & all!He is in touch, Subu, join us! Wat abt Kiran Nambiar, last i heard from him was wen he was working with some travel company at a good post.I wish to hear from Amrish, meet him regularly though, Vipul Pawani, y r u silent bum!, Viren Kenia, come out of yr shell mann!V live in d same bldg n i spoke to his wife yesterday abt d reunion, hvnt met him off late.
Hv, v shud hv some reunion of our college public too, ex vazeaites! It wud b good fun mann, most of dis ppl in d list belong to our college!
Chalo u guys, have a gr8 time, missing u all very much n specially very nostalgic bt d tension free school days!!!!!
Cheers all of u!
Nayan
My God, I am so so so thrilled to receive this
message. All the way from Massachusetts!!! Surely, it
all seems worth it now... You dunno when I was called
for the picnic I didn't seem very interested as there
was no one from my batch. When i reached Vani I was
shocked to see people from 1967 batch or around with
wives and children. I was, have to admit, not very
hopeful about the picnic. Also, it was a watering
hole, next to Tansa river and I had not taken extra
clothes. Missed out on the rain dance, pool fun, etc.
Then I met L Rajesh Iyer...of the 1991 batch. And he
updated me with some of the characters of 1989.
But now i think, it was good i went. At least it gave
the germ for writing to all. And how lovely it's
turning out to be. Something that started from Bombay,
has got replies from London, Dubai, Texas, California,
Massachusetts, Philippines, etc. I mean, hey Vanians,
we just got global!!!
I think it's the 1989 batch which is really spreading
its network, isn't it? And thanks for giving the email
id. I was wondering about Shambhavi? I had met her
sister Prerna long ago on a local train. Also, Chitra,
the light-eyed girl, isn't it? And Srividya, she has a
mole prominently on her face? like mine.
You know, I look forward to opening my inbox...every
few minutes there is some addition or a mail from
someone excited. I had six mails out of which two were
stories I had asked people to send me. But you
know...my first instinct was to open the mail with the
subject line "Ex-Vani - Internet Re-union." And was I
delighted that I did.
Thanks so much for the response. It's indeed
overwhelming. And it was good to know about
Seethalaxmi.
Let get Shambhavi, Srividya, Chitra and others write
to us. Please do.
Love everyone
Archana
Dear Nayan and everyone,
KEEP THE TORCH FLAMING TILL ETERNITY ...Archana Sharma, 2006
Ha, ha, ha. Not being pompous. Just joking. I am quite humbled by the praise lavished on me by Nayan. It's not an effort at all to write to you all. It's pleasure, really!!! But thanks anyways.
And of course, L Rajesh Iyer deserves kudos. While returning from the picnic, while all the senior people wondered what khichdi we two were pakaoing at the back seat, we were actually drawing up a list of how many people would turn up at the DJ night. And thats when we decided that I shall write a mail. He is quite a sweetie.
So nayan, it's confession time huh? Exchanging notes for no reason? I hope u didn't slip a letter in between the books. You may have been naughty, but i thought i was the most naughtiest. I mean nobody had a parent coming and complaining that a student is harrasssing my daughter. Well, I have achieved that feat. You remember Dipti (can't remember her surname). She used to sit with Vandana Ganesan, a very affable soul. They both were first benchers of the boys row..till ninth.
I used to pull her hairband off her head and take it to the boys to force them to smell. And the boys used to run helter skelter away from it. That was during the rare days when my socks weren't upto the mark in its stink. Poor girl had braces on and after recess when food would be stuck in between her teeth, I would call her mouth a refrigerator. " You are keeping food for later at night," I would ask. When I recounted this to my English classmates recently they were shocked. " Gosh, we call this bullying. You would have been arrested if it was here,'' said the very sensitised girls. Obviously, Dipti's mom took leave from the bank she was working in to complain about me. That was in the sixth standard. Murthy teacher transferred me from second bench to first as punishment and gave me a warning, " If you do any more masti u will be pushed further in the front," pointing towards the floor infront of the first bench.
Pradnya keeps reminding me, trying to speak between supressed giggles, how I have harrassed people. I used to call Raja (a short guy who used to be with Prince) or someone else Dhoptuchand. I spread the rumour that he had proposed to a tall girl and she beat him up because he was so small. Since then whenever he entered the class i would let out, " Dhoptuchand" all the girls would howl in laughter. Poor fellow, wondered what's the problem with his entry.
I also spread the rumour that Sandesh gave Laxmi (first ranker) a red rose. Actually, he had a thing for her. No wonder boys hated me so much.
U remember Mahesh Motwani, Jyoti's brother. He liked Pradnya. He had called her to his house to introduce her to an US-returned uncle (a displayable object at that time). She took me along. That guy was so disappointed to see me with her...that he didn't even offer us snacks or chocolates from abroad (that was the only reason why i accompanied her). He also made it quite clear to Pradnya that he was not happy to see me.
Well, I don't blame them. Jaisi karni, waisi bharni. But i would like to apologise to anyone who i have seriously hurt that they are ruing even now. After all, I dont want to be lynched on Sept 16.
So here goes...long mail again all about me. Sorry if you had to put up with it. If you guys can get Pradnya...she has an elephant's memory. She will recount many more things...most of it will embarrass me ...but that's the price you pay for being impish.
Love all
Archana
Oh yaar! U write really well. I guess u select d right word 4m d dictionary n put it. Archana I admire your writing skills, you are just amazing. This is not a praise but i really envy you for your writing skills.
Definately, i remember you being a very naughty gal but wat u mentioned now is something totally hillarious. You jus cracked me up! Heheheheh, i m still laughing, by God, dat Dhoptuchand & Dipti mus b planning to kill u on September 16th, better come prepared, hhehehheheh! Mahesh Motwani's incedent was a good one! U really were a prankster, i wish i knew dis before in our school days, v cud hv teamed up n pulled ppls legs! Wat i notice is dat u too have a gr8 memory, too good yaar!
Chal, keep writing everyday since u do it so well!
Loved it very much, Pradnya has an elephants memory but y is she not responding. Any idea about Pradnya Pai?
Take care
Nayan
Dear archana,nayan and rajesh,
good going...specially rajesh...for the list addition....from my forwards....indu and jaya have responded. looking forward to hear from others....
nayan...really appreciate your quick response to the group pictures....frankly i didnt expect you to find them in your kitty.......kudos.
all of us writing should make sure to mark the mail to all in the list.....i think we are in big time..it can also become an VV data base..where all of us can register with PP photos, names, batch...current details, family details...pictures etc...so that the data base is generated.....any new member gets the copy of the data base to store for himself/herself...(what say?)....important thing is for one of us to take this initiative...but lets get lot more on board....
now...about all those comments/confessions/pranks...etc by nayan/archana.....awesome...its great to be recollecting all of those..most of us wouldnt even know....(unless its a public crime like...what the 1987-88)batch (Headboy Mohan, Vinay, Tej etc..) did on their farewell day...i am sure most of us remember.....and the Prank that they played...on the Popular girls of our batch during the HOLI...(baloons/ink etc..)...so keep them flowing...but as all us agree...more of the added ones...should start writing...
Priya(my wife) is going thru all mails...and is all set to write a long one....so expect one over the coming week...
About Raja(archana's dhoptuchand).....i met him a couple of times between 1996-2001....he is a tall and well built man now....into construction busines...continued to reside in Kisan nagar.(wagle estate in thane)....so anyone..who tries to hit him...will pay the price...ha.ha.ha
i remember all those who have been mentioned by either Nayan/Archana......and it was so refreshing to see manyof those in the pictures attached.....especially...the ones that i regularly know or meet.....how each one has grown and changed...
Sep16 is surely going to be one of those days...where the Changed ones...will come together and share memories...please take as many pictures as possible..rather....also take a good video footage...
chalo then....
keep writing...
INVITING ALL OTHER FRIENDS TO COME ON BOARD
cheers
HV
You know the second from right...at the bottom of the girls...is Radha. She was in my class in tenth. I had scribbled 420 on her dress by a chalk. When she turned back I didn't know what to do...I just pointed at Shailesh Karkera (Also second from right, at the top rack). He was sitting in the next boys' row. The girl felt all ragged about a boy scribbling at her back. Imagine, she went home quietly that day. Came in another set of uniform the next day and brought the scribbled uniform, neatly folded as if freshly pressed! Presenting it before the class teacher, I think Celine miss, she claimed Shailesh had scribbled on her. Obviously the poor quiet boy panicked and I had to own up!!
It was considered such a big crime by the teachers. I was made to stand outside the supervisor's room for two periods. Junior college boys passing by saw me sobbing and efficiently reported it to my brother. My bro was soo embarrassed and promptly reported it to my mom. The rest is family matter.
Ok, ok, I got pastings from her. See I am confessing all the sordid details of my past.
You too share something.
Archana
guys sending school pictures....prefer to scan and send rather than take a picture of the picture and sending.....view will be better.
cheers
HV
I have no clue what they did. I remember they scribbled our class walls with bad words connecting it with popular girls. LOSERS ALL!!! Kidding.
But the room was painted in a jiffy as the teachers were shocked by what they saw. The girls were shocked and scared too. I was enjoying the attention (not on me baba). I meant diversion of attention from studies.
And Sethuraman was in my class in B.Sc (zoology). He was still the same till i last saw him. Extremely quiet. I'd lost one year in B.Sc (it sounds better than saying 'failed') and after the gap year I saw him on the street. I asked him if i could get his notes. He took down my address and came to my house to give it!!!!
Funny thing was I wanted my mom to prepare tea for him. So in coded Nepali language i asked her to keep hot water to boil as chai is almost chai in Nepali too. Obviously i didn;t want him to understand. Mom replied by saying there's no white thing (milk) in the house. Now white is setho in Nepali..and she kept saying the setho thing is not there...Send someone to buy the setho, Bro responded, " No i won't go to buy the setho...after all the discussions over Setho, my bro reminded us that this boy's name is Sethuraman. Poor fellow was shuffling in his seat uncomfortably wondering why is there a big discussion on him. Never saw him ever again. But we did give him lemon juice in place of tea.
Archana

Hi Archana/Disha/Nayan,
These days I open my mailbox eagerly looking forward to hearing from any of the Vanians! Feels so happy to get back in touch with you guys after about 17 years!! My special thanks to Rajesh & Archana for conceiving this idea of bringing us ex-Vani folks from all around the world closer!! Really brilliant!!
Archana & Nayan, I can't believe how vividly you remember all your school experiences even now! As far as my memory is concerned, its very anti-elephant (if u can call that a word..hehe)
I remember the Motwanis-Jyoti & Mahesh..they were twins, right?? They were considered to be very pretty/handsome in those days..
Archana, I have to agree with Nayan and the others, u have great penmanship..but naturally, its your roji-roti, eh?! Also, I just visited the blog u created, and I must say, great work!!
Yes, Chitra K is the light-eyed "scholly" girl from 'A' division..Nayan-she is the topper from our batch and not Varsha..Chitra is infact married to an ex-Vanian, Kirthivasan, although I don't know which year he passed out..speaking of Chitra, one incident comes to mind..We were in the 8th Std. then and it was our Tamil period going on (Oh God! I even forgot the name of the Sir who taught Tamil..no not Baliah Sir, it was the other one)..anyways..it was a very boring session and I was engrossed in reading a Mills&Boon novel which was kept on my lap under the desk..but sloppy that I was, I got caught and the book was held by the librarian..and the worst part was that the book was issued in Chitra's name, and they refused to give it back to me for about a week or so, because of which Chitra had to face the consequences of returning it late..not to mention, they revoked my library membership, and to top it all, a complaint was promptly made to my dad (who was in the school committee)! For a few days after that Chitra used to give me those nasty looks and swear that she'll never share anything with me from now on..that being said, we both are very close friends now, especially since we live so close to each other (about 2 1/2 hrs. driving distance)..we meet each other very frequently..
Archana-I'm not sure u got Srividya right..she does'nt have a mole on her face..she was in our division in the 10th std. and used to sit with Uma Natesan and Meera Ranganathan (first/second benchers)..
Disha-its great to hear from you! I remember you with that short haircut and a "tom-boy"ish appearance..so r u still the same, or have u grown your hair long? would love to see the recent you :)
Nayan-who is this Uma Iyer teacher, yaar?? I can't seem to remember her somehow..anyway, whoever she is/was, hope she atleast looked presentable ;) would love to get in touch with you, and will try to, while I'm in Mumbai..
I live very close to Harvard infact, just about 30 min away..I even studied one course in Computers from Harvard Univ., although I'm not putting it to any use now..heehee..
I used to be in touch with Annapurna until about a couple years ago (we were together in VGVaze college as well, along with Shambhavi, D.Lakshmi and A.Priya all in the same class)..I even visited her in Maninagar/Ahmd once (My sasural is in Ahmd.)..I had'nt heard abt her moving to Mumbai..Wow! wish I cud get hold of her contact info somehow..
Nayan-I remember most of the folks whom you've mentioned in your mail..I remember Ramdas Menon very well, infact I'd even spoken to him over the phone a year or two after our SSC..wonder how he's doing and where he is nowadays..if I'm not wrong, I think there was even a rumour of him being coupled with someone when we were in the 10th Std.
Does any of you know where Pradnya Pai & Janaki are these days?? I think HV used to be Pradnya's moo-bola brother, right?? Did'nt she get married and settle in Dubai??
So you guys, r u all married? with/without kids? Do write in a few lines about your personal life as well along with your professional ones, i.e. if you don't mind..I really envy you guys who r going to be able to make it to the re-union!! Hope you take a lot of pics or even a video, if possible, and post it in the blog or something..would love to see how u all look now..from the mail responses that we've been getting lately, it seems like its going to be more of a 1988-89 re-union than an overall Vani alumni re-union! :)
Cheers!
Indu..
Hi Archana
Very very thrilled to have heard from u after sooooo many years.
This is vandana here remember. Hows life still you r sharma or husbands name is also Sharma.
Well i got married as soon as i finished my graduation and settled down in chembur . I have two kids boy - Srinath (8) and a girl (5) both studying in 4th and srkg respectively. Iam house wife throughly busy with both the kids. They keep me occupied the whole day. My husband's name is Sridhar and is an engg and working in Powai. Happily settled down.
That was all about me and how about you do write. Would like to know about you where r u and your phone no etc
my mob - 9323144796. resid - 25228481.
Would like to hear soon from you
Bye for now
Dear Indu,
After all, not bad at all, about your memories too. Poor chitra...hope she will join the gang soon...although, i dont know whether she will remember most of us....(she used to be so quiet in school....studious....)
If you read the blog, my first mail mentioned Pradnya Pai and her recent whereabouts. we are in regular touch. she is married to Girish Shenvi and is a mother of Shreya and Ganesh. Pradnya called me in the End of June to inform that she is going back to India on July3'06. No news from here since, but looking forward to hear from her very soon. Janaki, is married and her Sasural is said to be at the same locality as Palm acres.
Nayan, I will surely write about the school memories...me and priya are already recollecting a lot of them....since both of us had different memories in school...(we had never spoken to each other in school till on the day of our SSC results)....so...please expect a long memory-katha soon.
We need to get Ramani, Deepa shah, Meera Unnikrishnan, Meena (tall girl from veena nagar). Ramani apparently happens to call my mulund residence, when I am there on vacation...will try to get in touch with him. Ramdas ( very close buddy), Vikram Das, need to come on board. I will never forget Ramdas's res.number. he was one of my first friends who had given me his phone number for a chat....since he was the only one staying away from mulund (near powai IIT). I used to call him from my cousin's place during vacation. a very stylish left handed batsman, we used to have a good combat with bat and ball. same with vikram......we have very good cricket memories too.....which started from Class V. Vikram,Nayan,Myself,Ramdas(joined later),Mohandas(lambu),milind kambli, vaibhav(bhow bhow) kulkarni....Nayan....kya din the....
Indu, the tamil sir you are referring to , is Mr.John (pronouncing himself as "Jaan")...we used to call him Rajnikanth of vani vidyalaya.....
Archana, you cant forget him. if you recollect, our classes were temperorily shifted to a shed on the back side of our school in think in Class VII. used to me small benches and crowded classes. it was pawar teacher's class and she was absent....and there was no replacement teacher. the entire class was on a rampage...shouting around...and this John sir was taking his tamil class in the next class room. he came through to our class looking thru the windows (those rectangular metal ones) and he saw one girl jumping, laughing and shouting at the top of her voice (who else, but the special correspondent) and whacked her on the cheeks...(slaaap!!!!!).....and the entire class came to a stand still....and the rajnikant walked away..without a word....he had done his job.....
and when you think of slaps.....who can forget Shukla sir (hindi)...pinching his lips with his fingers.....kyon ji?...and his favourite victim...Navin Bhatija...(first bencher with Ritesh)....i cant count the number of times, he would have slapped Navin and Ritesh and Navin, with his fair complexion..would turn Red like an apple.....well....these memories just flow in..once i start writing.....i think over the next few weeks/months....we could actually consolidate the entire blog into a book....ha.ha.h.ah
more later
take care all
cheers
HV
I got three more "blogs" after the last mail I sent...yet it was not updated
on the blogsite. Now it's left to me to do that. I don't mind cutting and
pasting. But the problem is, it only says "Archana said" to every message
that's written by someone else. It looks as if Archana is one self-obsessed
person, who created her own blog and since nobody bothers to reply, the
loser keeps posting her own comments on her blog. So please register, it
doesn't take long. Yaaro, mere izzat ka sawaal hai. In fact, it didnt take
anything to create a blogsite.
So pleeeeeeeeeeese. We can post pictures also in there. I couldn't figure
out how...when i went again to the news editor to ask...he was busy making
pages. Now that I have involved outsiders in our reunion revolution (bade
chalo!) please let's get our acts together. Nayan can u please upload the
pics on the site. I couldn't open the pics after seeing them once. It shows
a cross in the place of the pics.
Regards All
Archana
Sure Archana...lets get our acts together..
Guys..com'on...lets do it....basanti ki izzat ka sawaal hai...oh.sorry...archana ki izzat ka sawaal..hai....(archana dont mind)..
nayan...same problem with the picture...could re-open it after saving.
cheers

I guess all of you who have settled abroad must be really happy abt yr decision! Whenever I go abroad, especially to U.S or Europe I feel India is atleast a 100 years behind. Jus hate d increasing population of dis country coupled with severe infrastructural flaws & on the top of it the increasing hunger for making more & more money by apna corrupt politicians. Archana, i want your views on dis topic & ofcourse want to know 4m all d 'firang Vaniates' wat r yr views on dis.
Archana, I will be registering in the blog soon & also uploading d pics. Want to welcome Vandana to d gang, Hi Vandana, I remember you as ever smiling, bubby little gal,jus cant imagine dat u hv 2 children. Honestly, very happy to read abt u!
Indu, wanted to know abt everyones personal life. So, lemme tell u. I am into exports, my dad's business. I am based in Mumbai and we sell 'GUMS' from India to foreign countries so that we can preserve some Khushi within India.Hheheheh! Oki, on a serious note, we deal in exudation of trees which are called Hydrocolloids! I am married for 9 years now and have a 4 year old daughter by the name of Navea. I am sending you all once again my recent family picture and want you all to do the same!
Chalo, bahut pakaya,

Sending d school photo again, check it out!
Missing Vikram very badly, I thot he was one of the finest cricket players I came across during dos days. He was a very good bat! I remember, I used to get along very well with him! Nilesh Dedhia, where are U? Mohandas, hheehe, U remmeber Vipul had recorded his voice abt his outbursts against Elizabeth Chaku & a few gals of our class! Den Vipul had actually played dat cassete in d class, he was reprimanded badly. Veeps, do u remember, hehehe, u were a naughty bum, full to Sanjay dutt types in looks as well as in practice! Heheheheh!
Chal

Nayan,
You look the same sans some weight. Wow keep it up. Whats your wife & kid's name. Nayan, the grass is always greener on the other side. You like the USA but many of us who have been here quite some time feel "Amchi Mimbai" or "Apna Desh" is the v.best place to be. Yes the USA is definitely cleaner, neater, .....blah blah but lacks our culture, custom, tradition, warmth, people, the oneness, friendliness. Yes Americans are friendly too & we have made good friends here but believe me its not the same.
Archana, You write so well yaar. Penmanship (or shud i say pen womanship) is excellent with just the right touch of humour.
I eagerly wait for some email/any email with the heading Ex-Vani these days eager to see who else has pooled in that I may know & hungry for more news about what has become of everyone there.
How about we creating a Yahoo group that way we can just mail it to that ...name it Ex-Vani or something like that. I know Indu had brought this up & many others have shared similar ideas. Why not put it together.
Thanks
Jaya/D.Lakshmi
Hi everyone!
Nayan-first of all, thanks for clarifying on the Uma Iyer matter..a li'l relieved, I must say! hehehehe..
Good to hear in detail about your life and business :) The pic is very cute!! Purnima looks just the same..infact u too! have u lost weight?? ofcourse, with all that "running in the gym" that you were boasting about, u ought to have! Your daughter looks just like you, Nayan :) Btw I like the name Navea..do u pronounce it as "Navya" as in "Navya-Naveli"-Amitabh's daughter??
The grass is always greener on the other side! U've asked a lot of questions to us, the so-called "firangs"..well about my life in the US, I really had'nt had any thoughts or plans about moving to US or anything, it was not a decision that I took..it was an arranged marriage, and the place usually is'nt of great importance compared to everything else..well, u know how it goes with arranged marriages, right? But I must say I'm happy and I do like it here..its a comfortable, easy and convenient life..u don't have to struggle for anything, the system is pretty good and clean and organized..but one thing that this country lacks is culture..and believe me, life here sometimes gets very monotonous inspite of having relaxed working hours and having a 2-day weekend and going on various vacations..After a point the people here are too self-involved...well what can I say, its just not the same as in India!
Another thing that I do not like about being here is the isolation from our family..we are sooo far away from our loved ones..we miss out on all the small and big things that happen with and around them! Although we have some great friends here who we can rely on, its not quite the same as your own family's support..After having a baby I realised this even more!
Apart from these, I have no complaints abt this place and life!
About India..well, I do miss being there a lottt!! One thing I've learnt after moving here, is that I've started appreciating India much more after coming here, than I ever did while I was there! When I was there I only saw the bad things about the country--which u already named--corruption, poverty, population, weak government..and did I mention corruption?? Moreover, the India which I left in 1999 was something quite different from what I see now! I mean I cannot relate to my old Mumbai anymore! Everything has drastically changed, right from the structure and physical appearance of the city to the life-style and living conditions..The other thing that hit me was the inflation!! I mean the value of rupees has gone down so much! Everything is so damn expensive there now..and everyone seems to be able to afford everything! I end up looking like a kanjoos when I come there bcos I still can't digest and accept the new pricings on practically everything! hehehe :)
About the personal information--as I mentioned earlier, I work seasonally as a Tax Advisor with a Tax and Financial Co., and the latter part of the year I keep busy with some mandatory tax courses and training and other things..this suits me especially after having a baby..my husband Rajesh works for an Investment Company as a Project Manager..My son, as I mentioned earlier, was born last April, he's 16 months old now and is getting naughtier and adorable by the day!
Mohan-thanks for writing about Pradnya Pai..I did'nt notice that part in your earlier message, somehow..and ofcourse, John Sir-VV ka Rajnikant!! how cud I forget??!!
Waiting to hear from Vandu and all others who have been a silent reader till now! C'mon guys, just a few lines!!
Take care
Indu..
Hi all
Let me formally introduce myself...dang too much formality
Am Vishwanath Krishnamoorthy. along with all other Vishwanath's and Krishnamoorthys out there. I think i might have been the 91 batch along with L.Rajesh (Rajesh correct me if I am wrong) some of the people out of my head who were in my batch were Sony, Jimmy, Paresh, Durgesh, Bipin etc. I went to Vani for my college too and yeah I remember Dolly and her chemistry classes..Santosh sheety, Shanta sheety's son was along with me in college.
Presently am in the US, just moved to Atlanta. Been here for sometime and have my Masters and MBA from here. Working here presently as a Supply Chain consultant
lol..not trying to bore you all..just keeping it short and sweet
Thanks for inviting me
Cheers
Dear Nayan and friends
Yes, u can say that I was pretty fun and crazy back in the days. I somewhat do miss it. But I do not miss being slapped, and pinched by all of my favorite teachers, lol. You know Wagle right? That man used to slap the shit out of me because I couldn't speak Marathi. Well, how could I it's not even my mother tounge, lol. The closet I can ever get to saying "aamchi mumbai"
Yes, and I do remember Mohandas, he was quite a character. I also did enjoy playing that tape in class. I aplologize I don't remember whole lot of you guys, because I vacated Vani's premises way too early. I do enjoy what you all I have to say and sharing great experiences.
Currently I am in Indiana getting my nephew settled at Purdue, so it's been quite hectic.
And to some of you who don't know me, I'd like to invite all of ya to my wedding in Jan 1st. Lets have a party.
Ciao,
Vipul
Ouch...It hurt!!! I had completely forgotten about the shed. Now i remember...But I am not surprised that I was slapped. I was the queen of a class-sans-a-teacher.
In fact my bro tells me that when i joined school in Class VI, he came to our class during recess telling his frens proudly that his sis had joined school. Apparently, when he came...he looked for me and spotted me...behaving in a very rowdy manner...hitting a tiny boy. He was so embarrassed that he pretended to search for me and told his friends..."Hmmm...she is not here, it seems. Must have gone out." And went away red in shame.
In fact, he was the monitor of his class and often spotted me kneeling down outside staffroom (second biggest punishment after kneeling infront of principal's room), when he came to collect and deposit composition books. He used to be so ashamed of me...as sometimes the co-monitor would point out, " Look ur sister, kneeling down." What a disgrace!! I used to dread going home after that as he would always tell on me to mom.
I remember once i was slapped by Shanta Shetty teacher. Juju, pls add her son to the list. We were in a cramped class in VII std on the third floor. My benchmate, Shilpa Mhatre, had got separated from me as she had suddenly grown taller. From beneath the benches I crawled from the first to the last bench and pinched Shilpa's thighs hard...The girl let out a loud squeal. Teacher turned back and she found me snaking my way back to my bench.
She slapped me hard and asked me to kneel down! I knelt very casually. Her portion/chapter got over early and she asked if somebody wants to perform something. Someone sang..then a hand was raised...and students pointed to teacher towards the raised hand. Teacher turned back to see me (still kneeling) with my hands raised. I wanted to dance..and I performed a Koli dance...and after that went back to kneeling down. Absolutely, no sense of shame that i was being punished.
But how I wish I were like that now. I would have been devoid of so much tension, yaar.
P.S: I will send the same mail to google group. So u might get this message again.
Arch
talking about being beaten..man i wont ever forget, i was beaten by Narayani i guess she was the huge supervisor or principal or whatever when i was in the primary section. one of the guys father had gotten him those 48 color sketch pen and i used it all on his face..made him look like a Kadakali..lol
the madam came to the class made a special announcement to have me come up and beat me with 7 freakin rulers...ouch..lol
and of course made to kneel down..
lol such are the ways of life..and who could ever forget how John sir (Tamil) used to hit with his knuckles on the kids head or Balaiya Sir who used to give a huge thump on the back
man..cant believe we survived those..
:)

Hi everyone!!!!
Happy independence day to and all!
Indu, Navea is a modified version of Navya Naveli, although not burrowed from the Big B's grand daughter, I wud say it is original. Nice to read abt your thots on living in d U.S. You still havent confirmed in which city you live in? Thanks for your compliments as well!
Chalo, guys take care!

Nayan
Good job Indu.
Nayan, your wife is your college sweetheart Purnima, just gathered it from Indu's email. Purnima looks different...ofcourse my memory is of the college days & we all change...maturity, motherhood, etc..
Archana, didn't know u were the tomboy & upto so much mischief. I thought I was the class rowdy...due to my height the shorter boys & girls were scared of me..& I was the bindaas type so no one tried to fight me off. Ofcourse I was also the saviour of the eve-teased girls as I wud go upto the boys & confront them. But due to my singing, sports, drawing & good academics, I was the fav of many teachers & was made the monitor of the cls. Ok enought of myself for the time being.
Its hilarious to read about everyone.....everyone is coming out of their skeleton closets now...
Take caer all of u & keep writing.
Jaya/D.Lakshmi
Hi everyone,

Nayan
Ok here's a recent pic with my son :)
Indu..
PS: Nayan, I think Purnima looks the same as I remember her, no major changes like having become too fat or too thin or a hair makeover etc.
Hey Indu,
U look the same. I had in mind what u look like. And plus i saw the group pics sent by Nayan and I spotted you. You always used to kohl-line ur eyes and pull a line at the sides of the eyes...and had a mole at the chin or something. Who had a mole on the chin?? I keep visualising everyone with a mole.
You look beautiful. By the way, I have not talked about my family. My family still consists of my two brothers and a sister and parents. Brothers are in philippines and America (texas)..respectively. Sis in Michighan. Parents are with me in New Mumbai. The simple reason why haven't I married anyone is because...I never fell in love. Or may be there was a mental block against it...two over-protective elder brothers plus the constant conditioning of the mind that I should marry a Nepali Brahmin...scared me from liking anyone. And as u know, guys, we have plenty of Nepali Bombay but not educated...We didn't have a circle.
Now I am free to choose anyone...but i guess I have become way too choosy. Or maybe scared of commitment.. I can't say. Basically, now the situation is...I want a guy who I like so much that to live with him I will get married to him. But I will not live with a guy just because I have married him. Confused??? I think arrange marriage is not my cup of tea. I am enjoying my single status at the moment (not a case of sour grapes). It was only bcos of that I could pursue my masters in England.
Will write more later///
Regards
Arch
Hey Arch,
Yaar I don't have any moles on my face! hehehe..I don't know who u r talking about..yeah I also have that 10th std. pic which Nayan sent..those 2 plaits champu hairstyle, and the eye-pencil 'tail' at the sides of my eyes (oh u remember that, huh!)..ehhehehe..
Good to hear in detail about your family..I'm sure you'll meet your Mr.Right soon..
Regards

Welcome to the gang. Make sure you read the blogsite: www.schoolreunion.blogspot.com and post some comments on there. You don't have to go through a major registration procedure. Just ur email id and password. U will know how it all started and where the reunion campaign has travelled. You can name people yoou know so that we can work towards getting them in the loop.
Hmm...88 batch..I knew Anila Alexander (B class), Meera Padmanabhan (A class talented) and a short girl by the name Vaidyanathan (or a female version of that name). She was very studious. And many more faces.
Our googlegroup id is: exvanians@googlegroups.com
You won't have emails bouncing back if u write on this.
Indu, can u have Santosh on the list. Thanks.
Regards
Archana
Who are u .. could not recollect .. can u let me know
Santosh
Dear all,
I was caught red-handed in the office...writing about my pranks by my News Editor. And Guess what ? I made him read what i was writing...he laughed a lot and couldn't believe i was such a bully in school. Then i told him about our sudden re-union mailing spree. He read my first mail and some responses...he suggested why don't we prepare a blog for ourselves. And he created one for us.
So whoever has joined later...will be able to see whatever we have been upto right from the first mail. I have uploaded my first mail as the beginning...and then rest of all the responses are put as comments. Unfortunately, since it's my login all the responses come under my name be it HV's, Nayan's, Jaya's or Disha's all under one huge comment. Couldn't help it. But the best thing it's sequential...so it will make better sense.
So we all can create a blog account and log in...and put our comments. Rajesh, whoever u have added...please send this to them. May be u will get this message again and again...but bear with it, please. It's in the larger goof.
The url is www.schoolreunion.blogspot.com
Regards Everyone...
Archana
Thanks for keeping me in loop. Good work Archana.

Indu..
hi everybody!
i am priya . to introduce myself i can say that i am MRS HV, daughter of present SIO's president MR C.V.srinivasan.but i think i will be recognised immediately by the name MUTHULAKSHMI I am from 1988-89 batch.. i am very thrilled abt the whole thing that is going on.
i remember so many things of our school days and am happy that i can share some . once indu had mentioned abt celine thomas. her class was a hilarious session for all of us (10std).she made us read each paragraph of a particular lesson by a particular student and the others had to ask questions from the same paragraph. i still remember how the ragging went on by asking the silliest questions., like if the paragraph started with YEH EK ATMAKATHA HEIN, the question would be YEH KYA HEIN? then the way she said BHEGAWAN for BHAGWAN.
who can forget the famous chandramati vijayan(BEVDI) ,FOR her the whole class was on the wall as she always used to look at the wall while she wuld be explaining a lesson. again in 10std me ,pradnya lokahande ,m. lakshmi and janaki had a hearty laugh when she saidGANDHIJI WENT TO FOUR CORNERS OF INDHIYA ALSO WENT TO PENCHAP. the word PENCHAP meant PUNJAB and we heard it as BRINJAL.
my mother ,aunt and uncle are also ex-vanians. MANE SIR used to come to me and always speak loudly ISKII MA, MAUSI AUR MAMA SAB MERE STUDENT THE!!! and this used to be the dialogue in every civil defence class. He also said KEEF OP for KEEP OFF from fire.cant forget abt LEZIM also.
in 10th std the chemistry class would be a lullaby to most of them PADMAVATI KHYMEL was the teacher. N.suresh in our class used to sleep literally as her class was always the one before RECESSand 3 00pm was nap time and i remember once me and shankaranarayan were looking at our watch and telling 3.35 HO GAYA ABHI BELL BAJEGA as our watches matched the recess bell timing exactly and she called us WHAT IS THIS U R EXCHANGING TIMINGS OR WHAT? and the bell rang .so we escaped her lecture.
jaya and me were benchmates in 7th std . in english text book after the poem on the same page there used to be the meaning written of certain words which came in the poem. once in some poem an accident abt a dog was described and there was a line which said THE LEGS OF THE DOG WENT THRU THE AIR-VENT.the meaning of the word AIR-VENT was given as AIR-PASSAGE- and jaya and me we laughing just by saying the LEGS WENT THRU THE AIR PASSAGE . I didn't know the word airpassage triggered the laughing nerve in us and then we had to close our mouth and laugh and USHA TEACHER was asking D.LAKSHMI ,MUTHULAKSHMI, WHY R U LAUGHING.?
9thstd FASHION SHOW (without boys) who can forget.savita, jaya, jyoti motwani, pinki vora, were the participants or rather winners as far as i remember.the light vocals had finished and followed by fashion show.JYOTI MOTWANI when in 9th WAS THE HEART THROB for many 10th std boys then and i can never forget how the boys used to loiter in our corridor during recess and once a boy in fact touched the floor and kissed saying she had walked thru that place. HOW SILLY!!!
jiju paul was the one who started the bus in the picnic-spot while in 10std. we had cursed him so much becos we had to leave early due his mischief.
JANAKI SHARMA our english teacher in 8th std was called FLOWER POT as she wore too many flowers on her hair and came to class.
waghole sir the line maroo!!! if anybody remembers there was one MANIK VARMA teacher till we were in 7th std and she used to always come to the class while waghole sir was teaching and talk GULU GULU to him. waghole also was one chance maroo!!!
sunita diwate the elephant of vani vidyalaya.
BALIAH SIR the LION OF VANI VIDYALAYA as he had beard grown like a lion.
SS RAJ the one who always used to admire kashmir and all the poems she explained sounded the same to us in 10thstd.
LAKSHMI BALAKRISHNAN once came to our class in 9thstd to distribute the answer paper of physics and the opening statement was THOSE WHO ARE ABSENT STAND UP
ALYKUTTY CHACKO the one who always ground her teeth when she was angry and of course NAYAN MEPANI was her favourite student as he used to wear BAGGY pant and had decorative things LIKE BOW on his pant. HEEEE!HEEEE!.u must appreciate NAYAN for coming in this attire for the interview of HEADBOY..
ELIZEBETH CHACKO who always spoke like a snake wherever the word started with S. so we called her a pressure cooker and she said SERO for ZERO.if we went to her for any doubt she said COME ON TOMMORROW!!
LYSAMMA JOHN.the biology teacher in 8th std finished all her words like . BIOLOGIM IS A STUDY OF BLAH BLAH,ZOOLOGIM IS A STUDY OF BLAH BLAH. all the GY 'S were GIM
KARTHA the great and the terror once slapped my class mate hemalatha in 9th as acc to kartha she talked while the prayer was going on. poor girl did n't even realise why she beat her. once A.PRIYA asked her some doubt on the road while kartha was talking to somebody else and kartha teacher made a statementTHESE SOUTH INDIANS ARE LIKE THIS ONLY!!!.A PRIYA was so offended that she moved some steps back and told her U R ALSO A SOUTH INDIAN and ran away.
i can go on and on.
i am very happy that there is a re- union taking place .ENJOY AND HAVE FUN.KEEP IN TOUCH.
REGARDS
PRIYA
Today is Kiran Panchals birthday, Happy Birthday to her!
Nayan
Hi everyone,
Nice to have Priya's comments! Yes, I remember Alizabeth Chakoo used to love me so much for my attire, heheheh!
Nayan

i see some 100 mails all from Vaniites here. what a pleasant surprise.
Its been ages, more than 17 years and all your faces just flashed like it was just
yesterday. Indu, Chitra, Hema, Rohini, Muthu, HV, archana, A Priya, Jaya all of them!!!!
Good to know that all your guys are doing well I dont know if anyone remembers me.except Indu, hema, chitra and rohini perhaps.
Will try and keep in touch
Hi Indu.
am waiting for you to come down. We have a lot of catching up to do
Vidya.
I remember u...U used to sit with Chitra. And were equally or almost as good in studies. I remember u had called me Nepali. You went, " Aey, nepali, Aey Nepali" and I turned back and u said, " Tu Nepali hai naa" and I, the ever agressive animal retorted with, " Aey madrasi, Aey Madrasi tu Madrasi hai na?" That was when we were 11 years old.
I also remember giggling with u a lot. Lemme ask this vital question: Didn't u put a mole with a pencil on ur chin?
Oops! I did it again!
Archana
Hi everyone!
Archana-thanks for the article! that was really touching..and would u just let go of that mole thing already?!
Priya, your email brought in a lottt of pleasant memories :) Remember, once upon a time (seems like ages ago!) whenever we used to get together our main time-pass used to be mimicking all our teachers and laugh out loud!? Among all the other stuff that u remember about Chandramati Vijayan teacher, does any of you remember about her "constantly falling pallu"?? hee hee!
Vidya-finally! Its so great to hear from you :) I'm waiting to see you and ur 2 li'l angels..
As far as I can remember, Hemalatha has an elephant's memory too! Speaking of her...I remembered something from our 9th std...I don't know how many of you guys remember, there was one new-entry named "Karthik" in the 9th grade..he looked very sweet, and a lot of us had our eyes on him..he used to sit in the corner of the 2nd last bench, and myself, Hema, Rohini and Vidya used to sit in the last and 2nd last benches in the adjacent row to his left..and we used to fight among ourselves as to who wud sit in the corner of the 2nd last bench, so that we can be nearer to him..and he, being a lefty, used to lean towards us while writing something and we were like "oooohhhhh aaaahhhh" kinds..hehehehe..Oh it seems so funny to remember all this now! For a long time we never got his name, and we all were too shy to ask directly then..Vasantha Eeshwar teacher was our class teacher in 9th std...while doing the roll-call, we heard her call him as "Kapte", and we thought for a long time that that was his real name--we used to think 'Oh! he is handsome and has a unique name!' Then later on Priya S. told me that his real name is Karthik and not Kapte..henceforth he was named by us as Kapte Karthik..fond memories!
Talking of birthdays put a thought on my mind - why don't we all exchange our birthdays?!!
Srividya - Aug 20 (coming up!)
Indu - Sept 12
Nayan - Sept 30
Vandana - Oct 23
Rohini - Nov 12
Chitra A (1985-86 batch, my sis) - Nov 27
Priya A. - Dec 1
Ramdas Menon - Dec 8
Disha - Dec 8
Jaya/D.Lakshmi - Dec 17
Chitra K - April 8
Priya S - April 9
HV - June 10

Those who are not on this list..care to share your birthdays??
Love
Indu..
Hi All,
Hope every one is enjoying every bit of the school reunion blogspot. I was away last week without access to my yahoo account, but was overwhelmed to see 80 emails in seven days. It took me good three hours to go thru each and every mail, of which I enjoyed every bit!
Indu, very glad to know about your well being and you still look exactly the same ( I think you had a nose ring?). Yes, I have given up my tom-boyish appearance, now!!!!!! I do remember meeting you near Mulund station which was quite a while ago. But I am so glad to be in touch again. Just a quick question, How did you know my Birthdate ? Also, I think Ram Menon's Birthdate is 11th Nov and not 8th Dec.
Anyway, keep it going guys. Look forward to hear from everybody.
Disha
YOU superwoman!!! How did u get our birthdays spot on???
Do u have some hidden key to the Vani archival files?
Arch
Hi Disha!!! Great to hear from you! Yeah I'm gonna be on and off on the net from next week since I'll be in India and don't know when and where I'll be able to access my mails..and u r right Disha, I really have to take out time to read and write the alumni mails, but I enjoy every bit of it!!
I knew many of your birth-dates, I mean the ones who I have been in touch with...for the rest of you, the secret is the Autograph book! Ramdas, that dog (just kidding!) had written a fake birthday on my book, huh?! Btw, Nayan, his phone number is not 582854, it got changed later on to 5782854..and now it must be 25782854, right?
Cheers!
Indu
Ha ha, Ramdas really pulled a fast one on all of us when he put his hearthrob's birthdate. But the real surprise is Disha remembering his birthday. Dish, u owe us an explanation. Jawaab do!!! Kiddin girl.
By the way, i just called the number to speak to Ramdas. It's turned out to be a wrong number. Disha, can u help?? he he he
Indu, we should meet when ur in Bombay. Why can't u be in Bombay on Sept 16? I mean do something, naa please.
By the way, in a month exactly we will have the DJ night. 30 days to go....
Regards
Arch
P.s: In between writing mails to you, i wrote an article on the safety measures for Dahi Handi...could be interesting reading. It's on Page 2. tomorrow...thursday. It starts with Salman Khan ...U won't find my name there. bear with the attention-seeking Me!
Archana,
Sorry, Yaar! I have to dissappoint you. It was only the birthdate which I remembered! could'nt re-collet the telephone number!!!!
Cheers,
Dish
Arch! Arre yaar I'll be travelling to atleast 6 places while in India..and my itinerary is all planned and fixed and all tickets have been booked already..so unfortunately I won't be able to alter my plans as I'm kind of in a tight schedule..I'll be in Mumbai from 27th Aug to 31st Aug, and then from 28th Sept to 13th Oct..wud love to meet you sometime in Oct whille I'm there!!
About Ramdas..I made a typo..his ph# is 25782859 (try with & w/o the 2)..hee hee..won't spare u, Ramdy! I even have his home address..if u wanna do a 411 to find out his real ph# ;)A/5 Phulora co-op hsg. soc., A S Marg, Powai (opp. IIT main gate)..when he comes to know of what all I've written abt him he's gonna come and hit me with a belan! hehehehe
Indu..
Hi Srividya,

welcome aboard...i hope lot of our friends open up their mailboxes...else...will have their mailboxes full...ha.ha.ha.ha
cheers
HV
Hi Indu,
Yes...those fond memories from you and priya....
about mimicking...teachers..i still do it sometimes...referring to some of our sirs....mane-"eh ladke, idhar aana", waghole-"he, kudi, kya re", shukla-"kyon ji,kyaa kar rahe ho",balaiah-"roar of the lion teaching tamil"...and some punchlines of the teachers....like lakshmi teacher..-"find out talking student", bevdi-"gandhiji went to landhan"...khymal's swooned lips while narrating those chemistry formulae, elizabeth chacko's sssssssss.....(she was the only teacher who always called me HV SUBRAMANIAN).....others would all get tired...with my long name....then...all of them got relieved of that when i was the Head boy..since calling me was very easy..."head boy...come here"....ha.ha.ha.ha....
indu...jinx about the birthday listing idea.....lets do that.
nayan has already remembered his 2 great friends' birthdays
Deepa shah - 13th Sept
Kiran Panchal - 17th Aug

cheers
HV
Hi Disha...Yes you are right...Ramdas Menon's birthday is 11Nov.
welcome back...
HV
Hi Disha!!! Great to hear from you! Yeah I'm gonna be on and off on the net from next week since I'll be in India and don't know when and where I'll be able to access my mails..and u r right Disha, I really have to take out time to read and write the alumni mails, but I enjoy every bit of it!!

Indu..
Lalu(Ramdas menon)'s number used to be 582859, then was 5782859....so should be 25782859....nayan had mentioned 582859...these were the initial days when Ramdas had joined VV and all of us used to be a part of the cricket team....
Sujil, Amiin, Vikram, Vaibhav...where are these guys...anyone????
HV
Dont worry gals...i know he was a heartthrob....but introvert tha.....(used to be blushing....man hi man mein)....but he is a good buddy...
so...whatever you have written...even if he manages to read....will still be blushing..i guess....
Lalu....(oopss sorry for using that name)....where are you?
I am not sure whether he continues to be in Phulora coop...his mom used to be teaching in Parle tilak vidyalaya in Vile Parle East.
its been ages....
HV
archana...rajesh..
why dont you guys get the alumni information from the school register...
i am sure Viji(alumni president)....will have access.
infact...one of the ex students...(Sridhar-must be around the 1980 batch)...is also a committee member in SIO(our school). it could be coordinated....and the entire list could be generated...ofcourse...addresses would have changed...tel no.s would have changed...but even if there is a 10% turnout...it would be really great.
We had done the same exercise for the Dec10 our batch reunion in 1995. if you guys remember(whoever attended)...the turnout from our batch was quite healthy...
we had collected the addresses and actually went out to quite a lot of houses...to meet our batchmates....it was fun.
good luck
HV
Dear all.... Vanividyalayans
May happiness be with us and around us
A good thing was started and you are making a mess of it....
let this be like a news board not two people writing to each other and 100's of other getting the mail which they cant relate too....
Once you have found you batch mate you can take each others personal email address and do what you want....
I do not want "tu ne 7th standard mein kya bolatha" bullshit as I do not know both the parties nor can relate to it.....
My inbox is full for messages which are for some Chitra or some HV or some Vandana some mohan etc etc.... I am not interested in their past school time incidents as I am not able to participate with them...
lets keep sanctity of this operation… else people will start deleting the mails from the inbox without reading it…..
Lots of love
Hitesh Sharma
Dear Hitesh,
I'm glad you expressed ur feelings. You have brought up a good point, and its been noted. We will take care not to fill up all the mailboxes with irrelevant or unimportant mails. Its just that we got overwhelmed when we got back in touch with each other after such a long time--17 long years!!
We totally understand what you are trying to say..but you don't have to point out names and sound so rude, it could have been said in a mild manner also..and please don't throw in phrases like 'the sanctity of this operation is ruined' and make this a big deal. Its not like we committed a big crime or something..we were just sharing some sweet memories of our common past. I understand that u (and many others) were not part of it, and so we shall refrain from posting exclusive 1988-89 memories on this group id from now on. If the huge amount of emails bothered you, you just had to point it out and request us and we would've kindly obliged.
To those who feel that a few of us have been mis-using this group id and sending hoards of "nonsense-talk" emails-as u may call it-to your mailboxes, I sincerely apologize on behalf of all of us for doing so..that was truly not our intention..
Thanks again for your email, Hitesh..I'm sorry if I offended you in any manner..really did'nt mean to! If you are still unhappy and need to be taken out of the group, please let me know and I shall do the needful.
Cheers!
Indu
Dear Rajesh,
Trust you are fine....
I liked the idea of this group.... I have been to such groups which are all great but then what happens and what was happening in our group is the beginning of the end....
I wrote because such a wonderful idea would go to waste and the inevitable would happen.
I wish you all best of luck and I am confident that the reunion would be wonderful.
I request you to eliminate my name from the group.
Warm Regards,
Hitesh
Yeah, Indu...I think since it is mostly the 1989 batch writing to each other...let's delete others...those who don't want to be deleted can write to us...
And if we have a general announcement we will post in the blogsite. I notice that the rude mail was a reply to my mail written about Srividya. Oops!!
Since Hitesh is four years senior than us, he might find all this irrelevant. A little less rudeness would also have driven home the point equally effectively.
Also remove Sanjay and Dinesh from the list. Sorry, guys, i got them added to the list. I apologise.
Also, if there are some people from our batch who are busy and may not be as interested as us in the entire thing, please let us know. It won't be seen as being rude or anything. Bt please make sure that u come for the reunion party on Sept 16.
And remember the blogsite : www.schoolreunion.blogspot.com
I see that it comes as Archana and her interest in the blogsite. Was just filling up the form as we normally do. That site is no way mine but ours.
Regards
Archana
Hi all
Since its mostly the 1989 batch writing to each other, others who arent as interested can just opt out. I dont think any one of you should stop writing what u want to just because somebody is not interested.
Beleive me, it felt great to read all those things. and mind boggling how much you guys remember about school days.
I remember each one of your faces but unfortunately, incidents have been wiped out.
But all this is kind of bringing back old memories and i hve been feeling good abt this.
HV, U are right, i am chota anand' cousin.
You guys have an amazing memory. Indu, i always knew was great with her memory.
I am kinda sloppy with dates.
Just in case u guys want to know, I am working now with L & T as HR officer and have two girls aged seven and four. (krithika and sanjana) .I stay at vashi and my hubby is with a manfg co here in Andheri.
Hemalatha is also in Vashi. but i am not in touch with her becuase of hectic schedules. You ask her and she will have a few gaalis for me.
she lost her brother who is an ex vaniite last year. That was very tragic.
she has son who is eight .
Archana, I am sorry if I said that all those years back. As i said i dont rememebr and hope u r still not holding that against me. Give me your # and i can get in touch with you sometime.
Regards
Vidya.
My God, Srividya. Please. It was a funny incident i was narrating. And if i was offended at all, I gave it back at that time, he he he. Please don't make me feel small by apologising.
And hey I live in Nerul. We should catch up. I don't remember hemlatha but was saddened to hear about her brother. Sorry. Please get her along for the reunion do.
Regards
Archana
Yes archana, i actually laughed when i read that and then thought how mean of me
I stayin Sec 17 at Vashi, Where in Nerul are you?
you said you are aTOI special correspondent. Now i ll look out for your articles!!
so that i can boast,............... just kiddin.
Regards
Vidya.
Hi every body.
Thanks Indu for the tight reply you gave to Hitesh. That was put up very nicely by you. Now who is this Hitesh is he from our batch.
Sorry guys for replying so late as was little tied up with things though i went through the mails and really delighted to find soooooooooooooo many mails in my mail box which usually has one or two junk mails. It is great thing and will surely make it on sept 16th. I spoke to Archana and Pradnya after 17yrs and really felt good. Though i don't remember anything they gave me many reminders.
bye guys for now it fun reading all mails and sharing the memories.
Vandana.
Dear all,
Chand mein bhi Daag hota hai.
Indu, i really appreciate your reply to Hitesh. You have written everything the way it should have been and I hope it finds the right nerve in Hitesh.
But all of a sudden, there is a sour taste in this magical journey that all of us taking.
ofcourse, hitesh has a valid point, but it should have been expressed in a positive way.
This brings us to another thought. should we just keep adding email ids without even getting to hear from them. i think its better to send a mail- giving the 16th Sept re-union invitation- then if interested, and depending on the response, the same can be added on in the chain.....who knows, there might be other HITESH's who might feel offended or bored about this loop of emails.
lets take our batchmates' opinion on this and then act accordingly.
Sorry hitesh....
Cheers
HV
Hi,
Yes, Indus answer to Hitesh shud b taken in rite spirit & hope Hitesh takes dis in a positve manner. Archana's suggestion abt deleting d ppl from d o8r batches is fine.
Ramdas's birthday and the buzz around me is quiet exciting!
But where is d hero hiding?
Bye
Nayan
Dear Hitesh
I can understand your problem, What rather than get
eliminated from the group doesn't make sense as we all
are exchanging mails after a long long time. So you
should be happy to receive the mail from your
schoolmates.
I would suggest you what you can do is block the mail
from googlegroups.com and whenever i feel i should
send you the mail regarding the development of alumni
will send you the detail thru archana.
Archana kindly delete this id from the yahoo group for
the time being.
Rgds
Rajesh
Indu indurajesh99@hotmail.com has added you to the VaniV88-89 group with this
message:
Hi everyone,
I'm just creating a separate googlegroup id for all of us from the 1988-89
batch, so that we can use this from now on for discussions related to our
batch exclusively..
Regards,
Indu..
Dear Hitesh / Rajesh / everyone other than from the 1988-89 batch,
I have created a separate group id for the 1988-89 batch so that we can exchange messages exclusive to our batch on that id from now on. Please do not let one slightly unpleasant episode to ruin the whole essence and purpose of this group.
So I chose not to remove anyone from this exvanians googlegroup, as henceforth this will be used only to convey information regarding the re-union planned for the 16th of September, and anything else there-on..
Please let me know if this arrangement is okay, and/or if anybody else has any other suggestions..
Regards,
Indu..
Much better!!!!
Can we continue with where we left?Just kidding.
Indu could we also add,
Shilpa Mhatre(Patil) : sarahprashant@yahoo.co.in
Suchita F : suchitaf@gmail.com
Thanks and look forward to hear from everybody.
-Disha-
Hi, Priya,
How are you? Wat do u do?
Were is Kiran Panchal? I wanted to wish her on her birtday yesterday?
Cheers, Nayan
Indu...Good going. This is a better idea for our batch. I myself don't know many of the names from other division but still enjoy reading the pranks.
Everyone else...keep writing. I enjoy each & every email & the fond memories.
S.Priya I totally remember our "legs went through the air-vent" poem & we constantly giggling about it.
Myself, A.Priya & S.Priya were the "trimurtis" those days & the talkatives. The teachers tried to separate us by making us sit at different corners but we wud somehow make it together again & start yapping much to the chagrin of the teachers.
The funny thing was due to my height I was caught talking all the time. Many times I was made to kneel-down outside the class room. But I wud make faces from there & make the others inside the class laugh. So then they wud get punished & come out to give me company. Shameless. More embarassing at the higher standards as the older boys wud see us kneeling/standing outside the class & we wud turn red.
During one HOLI, I believe it was during my 5th std, we were playing HOLI with ink-pens & Principal S.S.Raj ofcourse caught me in the act & I was kneeling down outside her room. My brother ( who was then in the 9th std) & his friends found me there & then u know the rest of the story at home.
Also couple of times I was caught sticking chewing gums on the boy's benches...esp the boys who were mean...(or whom I thought were mean).
In my 9th std, myself, S.Priya, A.Priya were in the 2nd bench & the Drawing Room in the 2nd floor was our class room. Remember in that room all the benches were the smaller Drawing Bench types. I used to kick the bench in the 1st row & that desk along with the student wud slide forward...So embarassing for them. Especially Anu used to sit there & we sud do it constantly & poor Anu wud patiently tell me don't do that D.Lakshmi. Myself, A.Priya & S.Priya wud giggle & then do it again.
I once even tied the ribbons of two girls in the front bench & also their belts to their school bags. So when they got up, they were like conjoined-twins.
Ok, Enough of me ....for now. Will dig through my memory for more later on.
All of you have a wonderful weekend.
Take care.
Jaya/D.Lakshmi
Hi folks! Wow this feels so much better!!
Disha/Nayan - I added Shilpa, Suchita and Viren to the group..the previous mails to Viren used to bounce back, so I'm not sure about his email id being active..hey Shilpa and Suchita were in our class (B division) in the 10th std...right, Dish??
Jaya - I knew u had a great memory! I remember the way the three of u (named appropriately as Trimurti) used to bully some of them in our class, u being the leader of all..among others, you used to tease and trouble G. Subramanian (batata) constantly..heehehehe..wonder where he is now..
More later..take care..have a great weekend, everyone!! :-)
Cheers!
Indu..
Hello friends,
My sincere thanx to the efforts taken by you all for the reunion of Vani students. It brings back the the child inside you... I was 1987 batch( Beliv me it took a while 4 me to remember this).... As Archana who happens to be my sis has mentioned abt me as good looking... Curiously after that I spent some time looking at myself in the mirror ... And came to the conclusion that I am spending unnecessary money paying the cable guy for CARTOON NETWORK... Abt my break dancing... yes I do but to the tunes of my newly born son and my sweet wife... As a whole lifes rolling on smoothly... But I miss India a lot... At present I am in the US....
SCHOOL DAYS...
Those were the days my friend and we thot it will never end... (Led Zeppelin)
But as every good thing has an end, let us all try to make each day we live beautiful , fun loving, and prosperous not only for ourselves but for everyone...
GOD BLESS US ALL
Dinesh Sharma
Dear All
Â
I really could not recollect some of you but any how it is a real good thing which is happening
Â
I personally feel that if someone is disturbed then he or she can stay away
Â
We should appreciate that this group is formed which it self is a great deal & should not take up such issues in a big way
Â
This is just a suggestion
Â
Any how I am Vaidyanathan.G … 88 Batch .. B Div
Â
For easy remembrance I was the guy who first started our private picnic & boycotted the school picnic  & for this act al the parents were summoned at the office … I think by this some people could recollect me
Â
hi vanividyalayans,
myself shilpa, suchita, disha, jyoti motwani, pradnya we all used to be together,(aatshe khidya) this is really very nice thing that archana has done in her life(mane sir's propargaaaanda- the way he used to hit anyone who were mischievous, right from the thighs upto bumbs, and the whole class used to giggle). our hindi teacher - shukla sir he used to call me silpaji yahan aayengee.
chalo, enough for now, will be contact thru mail.
bye
Friends, Are we checking the blogsite? We have someone from the 1990 batch writing to us there. A very interesting mail. Rajesh, particularly for you....the mystery of Jayshree Panchal is solved. But don't be too happy...she is married and has a kid. About her sisters...well...I will let Padma do the talking...
Padma said...
Hello Hello to everyone,
I've been reading all the comments from everyone from Day one but haven't had a chance to reply till now. Had a project deadline and so sorry for the delay in reply.
So first of all, thank you so much for inviting me to the reunion, Unfortunately will not be able to participate but it'll be great to keep the magic of good old school days alive.
Well let me reintroduce myself,
I'm Padma Krishnan from 89-90 batch. HV's Cousin and Head Girl of my batch. I'm currently in the US and work as an associate scientist with Abbott Labs. I'm married and have a 4 year old son Arya.
Hi archana, great to hear from you. Frankly, We knew you as 1. Dinesh sharma's sister and 2. the Aplam Chaplam Girl, after your school performance.
Hi Mohan(HV) and Priya, Indu and rest of the gang,
I'm able recognise most of you because after all we were your juniors and we pretty much kept track of anything and everything you guys did.
Most of my batch mates that i've kept in touch with are in the US-Vijaya Sitaraman, Renuka Sundaresan, Shivkumar Vithal, Chetan Jha, Anand Veeramani, Megha Srinivas. Swati Mody is in Australia, Mary Thangapandi (P.T. Usha of our batch) is in London. I do have contact email address of most of them and will include them in days to come.
To archana's and HV's question, yes chetam and jayashree are married and have a girl Sanskruti and are now settled in California, Jayashree sisters- Meeta and Kiran, I guess are happily married and living in bombay.
Hi Disha, Of course we rememeber you, you were the best koli dancer we ever knew.
Talking about pranks in school we had a lion share in it too. will collect the gossip and include them in the next mails.
Bye guys,
Padma.
Hi guys ,
Finally got around to replying these emails. It feels good to read all these
emails. I know most of the people though i might or might not have interacted
with everybody but i do recollect their faces. I know disha , suchita, shilpa,
pradnya, jaya, priya(muthu),a.priya, HV, NAyan of course indu, vidya, rohini hema
we were the pancha pandavas in our class and many others . i think many of them
were in c division and made it to A division in 10th . I am in Albany, NY with
my husband who is also a ex-vaniite and my daughter shriya. Indu lives close by
and we do meet . I am pretty close to her but so far we havent discussed much
about school days maybe this will give us a chance to gossip about good ol
school days. I will be missing the reunion . Have a great time!!!
Chitra
Indu,
i think this is great. solves all exclusivitiy problems of our batch.
as such most of us writing are from our batch..so its ok if this group id expands and as you rightly think, the important General info can go thru to the total vani ex students group id...however, its important that some masala gets added on to that id as well just to keep up the spirit..what say....archana...i think none better than you to do it..with your special corrpnt. skills...
welcome aboard, Shilpa, chitra.
cheers
HV
hi shilpa
welcome aboard....if this is your first mail...then too bad.....either you are too lazy or are too busy...(kidding)..
come on.....lets here some more......i am sure you have a lot to share about you, archana, disha, jyoti etc.....and what about suchita...(fating)...
take care and looking forward to hear more...
cheers
HV
arre..but where is the mail from padma....is it only on the blog? i am glad she wrote...this...
welcome aboard, padma.
-HV
Hey man, I am quite embarrassed at the special corr tag. Seems like ppl have forgotten my name. And I have hardly broken any dhamaka story to live up to that tag. I got an SMS from Subu...who apparently used to be Nayan,HV etc. and he started with Hello Special COrrespondentji....
I hope I was not sounding pompous (it's no bid deal) . Is that why ppl are pulling my leg? Or may be my mind is working overtime. But U know, how i am...I accept jokes even if they are at my expense.
To drop the bomb...Hitesh is my brother of `85 batch. But please don't go...Oh my...so sorry..didnt know..and such. Indu's mail was very apt and Vandana's added insult to his injury. But that's the price u pay when u name people. Hitesh gets very excited and hyper...it's in his nature...and he can be offhandish at times. And he did have a point..It was me...added his name unnecessarily. He is an export manager in Philippines and handles Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia as well. So he has to deal a lot through emails. So perhaps he was indundated with our emails.
I found his sentence really funny..."Tune mujhe 7th std mein kya bolatha" stuff. Can't stop giggling at that. U have to know him to find this funny. But one thing is certain...he would have gone all out to make the reunion a big success had he been in Bombay. But excuse him...after all, as HV says, Chaand mein bhi daag hota hai.
Love all
Archana
chaltai, chaltai...
HV
So, Vaidyanathan, did u manage to pull off that scandal -- of taking a private picnic -- after the parents were called?
Arch
That Batch itself was full of scandals if you recollect...archana....(no hard feelings, PG).
by the way, PG, where is Sunil kutty and rest of your gang?
cheers
HV.

ok..here it comes..our family snap..clicked yesterday.

Jaya
Hi all!!
Hope you guys had a great weekend..looks like I missed out on a lot of chat tp with you guys!! It was a busy Sunday for me today, being the last weekend b4 I take off for India! Yeaaaaaayyy!!!!! 5 more days to go! Although I'm dreading the journey..travelling alone with my hyperactive son, that too via British Airways, of all the airlines!! I'm all prepared and set with a strong dose of Benedryl for my darling son so hopefully he shud be sloshed in the aircraft during most of the flight journey..
Arch - like I said to u on chat..its okay yaar, u don't have to justify hitesh's email..he had every right to express what he felt! and so does everyone else..that was all there was to it..no biggie! I read Dinesh's mail..I can say the sense of humour is khandaani, eh? like sis-like bro :-)
HV - looks like u had a lot of free time today for email-chatting, huh? Is'nt Sunday a working day for you?? I remember having discussed this on chat with u the other day, u saying that they r going to make Sat-Sun as weekend soon..is it already done??
About Padma's blog..HV, u can write a message directly at the blogsite..and anyways, even if u send a msg via email, you have to manually copy-paste it into the blogsite..atleast that's what I did with a few exvanians emails..
Shilpa - Welcome aboard!! excuse me for displaying such a bad memory, but u were in the B division in 10th std. right?? Sitting with Sucheta in the last bench..and u used to wear a cute diamond nose ring..didnt u?? It feels soooo good to get back in touch with old friends, I tell u!
Chitra - finally!! got some spare time during the weekend to write a few lines, eh? knowing you, I can tell everyone how hectic your lifestyle is, with an 8-hr work schedule and a "hyper-active" social life (as I always tease her) and not to mention a 7 yr old demanding (and deserving) constant attention!
Jaya - hey I have that exact same problem..could'nt find a single decent family pic with me, Rajesh & Dhruv..its either me and Dhruv, or Rajesh and Dhruv, or just Dhruv :-(Â Like HV-Priya did, we also shud take a pic specially for posting here I guess..
I'm waiting to see everyone's family photo!! I shall post one soon..if not of all 3 of us, atleast one of myself and Rajesh, so you wud've seen all 3 of us then :-)
Does anyone remember Gowri Prabha?? She used to be a first-bencher, a studious girl who used to sit with Uma Natesan in the 10th std. B division..She's here in MA very close to my place..infact she came from India about 4-5 mths ago..I met her a couple of times..she works in the software field, don't remember which company..unmarried..I have'nt spoken to her in some time, so she does'nt know about our internet re-union or the re-union planned for Sept 16th in Mulund..
That's it from me for now..more later..take care..
Cheers!
Indu..
It did not take off .. the only thing we were left out with the parents shouting at home next day
Â
But believe me it was a good experience
Â
Thanks Jaya...
Indu..today is an additional holiday....actually the holiday falls tomorrow, but our HR is a bit flexible you see. they tied it up with the friday/saturday weekend to make it a 3 day weekend...
by the way, the changed weekend in the UAE is going to be Friday/Saturday...was Thur/Fri .
Â
Indu, you have a great trip and hope you can somehow make it to the Sep16 event.
Â
cheers
HV
Happy birthday to Hemlata. Indu..going by your birthday list....
Today is also Bhavin Ganatra's birthday. if anyone remembers him, the fair short guy with dark brown glasses. living next to Sitalaxmi's bldg.(tapasya building). he used to be in dubai too. had met him with his wife brinda and a kid....was in touch....but his mobile no. has been out of service for sometime now.
tried calling him today too....same message.
Â
anyway..hope to find him somewhere, some day.
cheers
HV
Oh yes, I remember Bhavin Ganatra...and visualise him everytime Viren Kenia is mentioned. And all this while, I was wondering if the fair guy is not Viren. And who is he?? Thanks for clearing my jammed memory lane. I am on the trip again.
Arch
hi hv/priya,
first of all i came to know your real name thru the mail, usually we used to call you hv, never thought of knowing your name.
i am settled in mulund(not thinking of going elsewhere), my daughter - Sarah is in 2nd std.(i was willing her to put in vani - but the language barrier) she is in S.S.vaze school(mulund west), my husband is working for a bank(mulund guy never met before), this is about myself.
We saw priya on saregama, immediately i called suchita even she was watching the same thing. i was happy at that time ki chalo, we are able to see you thru this media. Now about Suchita, she stays in mulund, nearby my house, disha is in london and from our 10th std. jyoti is been nowhere, no contact.
Suchita is still(fating), disha got married, me and archana are in contact.
hope to make on 16th september - our re-union, we will miss you all.
will be contact.
bye.
shilpa.
Hi folks,
I introduce myself as Vishwanath Krishnan ex-Vaniite from Batch 1990-91.I have been reading the e-mails over the weekend. It was nice to read some of the e-mails.It was very unfortunate some ex-students could not relate to the memories that were exchanged.I was extremely impressed with some of the memorable and funny recollections. Most of the teachers were common to my batch too.Mane Sir's triple slap followed its path atleast till my batch. He had a bad fall once from the stage(podium) in the classroom when he had tried to hit a boy who kept moving away from him. There was big "ooh" in the class.Shukla Sir's soft and gentle queries immediately followed by a shocking bomb(slap) used to scare the heck out of us.The most difficult guess is that no one knows when it is coming.Kartha's insulting remarks mostly targetted the female folk in the class,so we were saved for most part.Lots more that I now remember,I shall save it for later.
It is good that you guys are organising a get together in BBay.Do send pictures on the groups ID.I am currently in California USA.It was nice seeing the e-mails.I shall try my best to get folks from my batch or other ex-Vaniites I know into this grp.
Cheers
Vishy
Dear Shilpa,
Thanks very much for your mail and glad to read details about you.
Suchita attended our wedding...but after that...no touch... please invite her to join this re-union on mail...i am sure she will be joining you guys on the 16th sep.
good to note that you guys are holding fort in Mulund...can meet up surely when we come over next time...
take care
cheers
HV....(by the way....for those who have always..wondered..what does HV stand for...it is Hariharan(my dad's name) Venkatasubramanian.......such a short name...isnt it?)
Hi Vishy(Shankar)....ooopss..did i commit a crime...
welcome aboard...hope you are doing fine...and so is your better half..
keep writing
cheers
HV
Srividya, i am so sorry....i simply didnt bother to go back to indu's mail (with the birthday list)...for some reason...i just recollected...that i had read Hemlata-20th Aug.......
hope you had a nice birthday...
cheers
HV
Hey, you dont have to be so sorry. That perfectly okay.
Bday was nice. Looted my hubby.
I got to see your family snaps today. You guys have not changed a bit. and kiddos are damn cute.
Vidya.
Dear Indu,
Can u please remove Hitesh from the list of this current googlegroups...as I feel he still may be receiving substantial number of mails...which are not written to him...and are not of any general value meaning it's more of specific nature. No, he has not written personally to me, but after reading Nayan's email I feel, he too must be facing the problem as he also has to deal a lot businesswise through email.
You must have noticed that today itself he must have received five mails...not relevant to him. This will be the sixth (this is relevant though :) . I don't think he will mind being removed from the list..esp since he had asked for it. Any important announcement pertaining to all...can be emailed to him as CC. There are many, in fact, who are not on the googlegroup. Like those from 67, 80, 83 batches.
Only yesterday i goofed up by writing to Vaidy something personal and he replied to me as well as others on the googlegroup. So the chain is not stopping.
He can always check the blogsite which we will regularly update to get the latest development, etc....
Actually, i am concerned that he will blame me for putting his name in. After all, it was me who fwded the name.
Regards
Archana
HAHAHAHAA..Arch, u r so sweet!! Relax!! U don't have to give me such a
looonnnggg explanation for removing an email id from the list..whatever
needs to be done, just let me know, and i'll happily do it :-)
Btw I just removed Hitesh's id (mailtohitesh1) from the google group..
Cheers!
Indu..
Hey ppl and Hi Ramdas!!!
Got Ramdas's id. I called his residence yesterday and his Dad asked me to call today. And when i did that, his mom took the call. I almost had to give an interview of sorts before she revealed the much desirable email id. She was surprised about the reunion movement...and first asked whether I was married. When i replied in the negative, she warned me, " But he is married and has a kid." I muttered to mysef, " Aunty, he may be a strapping young man, but I never fancied him." Noooo...that was said mann mein (mann mein bola types).
Actually, i told her, that i was happy about it. And dropped the names of bigwigs like HV (she remembered him). Ideally, a male member like Nayan should have called, just realised. Even in cases of girls, it's better to contact them by the same-sex member especially if she is married. What if she has a strict saas?
In the course of the interview, Aunty learnt that I live in Nerul now. Incidentally, Ramdas's wife is also from Nerul. After this, our conversation took a casual turn.
Hey Ramdas, welcome to the movement.
I hope you are not offended at my indiscretion of calling ur residence. Aunty was asking me if she had to take ur consent to give the email id. I hope u agree with my answer that it was not required.
Well, u have been greatly discussed as u will find when u read the comments on
www.schoolreunion.blogspot.com
A copy of this message is also marked to HV, INdu, Shilpa, Chitra, Nayan Mepani, Vandana, etc. and don't keep wondering....it's marked to Disha as well.

Hello everyone,
This is Chitra Arunachalam from 85-86 batch. Its
great to know about the Vani Reunion. No one yet on the list from my batch
... .But its nice to know so many old freinds are meeting or atleast
contacting each other. Hope you all have a great time.
Cheers!!!
chitra
Hi Chitra
welcome to the reunion...hope you read thru the blogsite.
keep writing and get your batchmates to join...(may be shobha)
HV
Hi everyone,
I think this internet re-union is going really great and I once again want to thank Rajesh, Archana and whoever else was involved in conceiving this thought of bringing together old schoolmates thru this media, and for organizing the get-together on Sept 16th..but I also think that we should try to expand our group and bring in more schoolmates into this circle..whatsay?
Btw, has anyone of you heard about or visited batchmates.com?? Apparently I've registered on that website sometime ago, which my sis (Chitra Arunachalam) reminded me today..when I visited the site's Vani Vid page I found that about 268 members from Vani Vidyalaya have registered there (out of which 25 members r from my batch, i.e. 1989)..well I'm not a paid member, so I'm not allowed to view their listed email ids..I tried to send them (my batchmates) something called a virtual email, which means that they will receive an email notification from batchmates.com that a message awaits them on their website mailbox..now its upto them whether they visit the website and check it, or not..
If anyone of you is a frequent visitor/member of that site, pls. try to send info to all those who r listed there, so that we can have more no. of ppl on the 16th Sept party! I will also try to familiarise myself more over there, and find out if there is a way to notify all of them somehow..
Have a great day/evening, folks!!
Regards,
Indu..
Thanks Indu, thats a great idea.
go expanding guys.
cheers
HV
Hi Everyone,
I finally managed to Scan the school pictures....yesterday, myself and priya were literally calling out all the names
I am sending the pictures one by one in separate mails.
Some of you werent in Vani Vidyalaya in primary section, but you will find it amazing to see how many of us looked in our real childhood.
Here comes....starting from Junior KG, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 9. i think my grade 10 picture is in India. so meanwhile if someone else finds it (especially of Grade 10-D), please send it....
the practice of taking group pictures had stopped in between...else we could have seen year on year.....

Hi All,

Currently based in Melbourne (Aust.)
Thanks a lot to Indu for the invitation about this group (thru
batchmates.com)
I will be in mumbai during this period and will be more than glad to
attend the function on Sept 16th.
This is a great idea to have this group and whoever created it is - has
done a very good deed. thanks.
For the alumini gathering are we able to rope in any teachers who may
be available..it will be great to have some of these retired teachers?
Anways, Great job...i am very happy (and lucky) to know abt this right
now when I will be in mumbai on my annual leave.
HV/Priya,
Are you guys going to make it?
You invited Sameer Chattre yet?
Cheers
Anil
Welcome, Anil!!

Cheers!
Indu..
Indu, dont you sometimes wonder where "kapte" karthik could be?
would be good if we can get hold of him somewhere. is there anyone who know where he is. ?
Indu, remember how u, me, chitu and roti used to fight to sit in the corner seat next to the boy's row! Hema used to be the good girl!
Vidya.
Vidya,
I had mentioned this a few days back about "Kapte" Karthik, remember??!! And what do u mean Hema used to be the good girl?? She was the most chaalu among us..she used to always win the corner seat..I remember, Hema used to mimick him very well...especially that line "sadhu ne seth dwara arpit dhan ka sweekar kyu nahin kiya" flowing in tune..hi-low-hi-low..hehhehehee..
But he was with us only for one year--9th std. He'd been to some movie with S.Priya and gang I think..right, Priya??
Indu..

hi all
let me introduce myself.i am A.Priya from 88-89 batch.
sorry for the delay in writing. actually my pc had some problem and was back jus yesterday. i was overwhelmed when i saw mail box. it is something fantastic. three cheers to archana and rajesh. so many mails in my mail box. i spent nearly 3 hrs reading them all.something phenomenon.
i am really getting wild at my memory. so bad. im unable to recollect anything. but thanks to u all people for refreshing it. wanting to go back to those days. we were full of energy and enthu. anyways let me try to recollect something.

Welcome Anil, Great to hear from you. And u said u will be coming to India and will be here for the Sept 16 do? I am Archana, I was in C class..You wouldn't know me, but still bear with this mail. IS it possible to find some more people??
...I am very happy about the internet reunion thing, but i am a bit concerned about how much of it will actually translate into numbers on Sept 16. Since most of the people we are chatting with are abroad...except for Nayan, Shilpa, Myself, Vandana, Vidya....I am afraid we might not get much people.
I think we should walk that extra mile, to reach out to other Vanians. I had suggested long ago of a combing operation! Meaning going to people's houses the week or fortnight before Sept 16. It will be a nice outing too. Nayan, I want ur opinion on this as I will be expecting you to be part of The Hunters' gang. We already know the houses...but don't have their email id. Even if people are not there ..atleast we can take their cell numbers or email id later from their kins.
I am sure they will express their disappointment later of not knowing about the party, when they meet u at the RRT market.....Oops...should I say The R-Mall.
Also, Indu will be leaving for India soon. SO I hope there's no lull in communication. she's almost donning the cap of our headgirl(??) bcos of her super-effieincy. For those who rarely visit the blogsite www.schoolreunion.blogspot.com I have uploaded the group pics on the page. Will add others soon. Problem is " The Beginning" article is pushed back. I wonder how I can keep that as the first thing in the site. The pics are our batch specific..but the article was written with general Vanians in mind.
Regards all
Archana
Is Anil added to 88-89 google group?
Hi Arch, I hear you!
I think your "combing operation" sounds really good!! It reminds me of how my dad used to go door to door for school/bhajan samaj collection (fund collection for seasonal poojas)..but when I think about it here..is it practical? Do u have a lot of addresses? if u need any help on that, I have my autograph book (which btw I've already packed in my suitcase..heehee)..what if they moved since? Hey, are we inviting teachers (ex-teachers) to the party, too? I don't want to sound discouraging or negative..and I join you in your concern about the number of people turning up at the party..Forget about others, I myself am not able to make it even though I'll be in India, and I'm feeling terrible about it!! What to do, family committments..can't help :-( But don't worry too much about the numbers..as for our exVanians group, it has a total of 51 members so far (email-count-wise)..and as u pointed out, half of them are abroad..
I'll be in Mumbai between 27 & 31 of Aug, so if u need any help from me during that time I'll be most glad to help!! Regarding my online accessibility and group updations, etc., I will have access to the internet at all times except from Oct 19th thru Nov 15..but I will surely be visiting a cyber even then..Btw, don't crown me as the internet headgirl or anything yaar, I'm only too glad to help out in any way I can..I love being actively involved and getting back in touch with u all and hearing from all of u..
So, u finally figured out a way to post those pics, eh? Great! Now the blog looks really cool with all those school pics..is it possible to post the family pics on some other page, if there is another page, that is..which reminds me, we have'nt received any more family pics after Vidya's..
Btw, I added Anil Nair to both the groups..there is a new member, Gowri Prabha (10th Std. C division) who lives here in MA, USA right now..so Gowri, Welcome!!
I'm leaving for India tomorrow (or should I say today--since its 3.00 am here now)..I'm really excited about the trip-3 mths!!! Even if I'm not able to attend the party, I would love to meet you guys later when I'm in Mumbai (between 28 Sept - 13 Oct), if possible..Oh I sooo wish the party was around that time!! :-(
Cheers!
Indu..
Hi Anil,
Hmmm, I really envy you mann, U live in one of d best places in d world!
Hehehe, two kids, by God, u hv really worked hard, heheheheh, jus kidding!
Thank you so much for your invite, we export our products to Australia and one of my customers is based in Melbourne, it will not be long before I land up in Melbourne, so jus wait, I cud gate crash any time, heheheh!
I will be going to Japan, Tokyo in October, Koi bandha hai kya apnaa, the hotels are damn expensive over der yaar, heheheeh!
Looking forward to seeing u in person, in the meantime send me your pictures!
Regards:Nayan
A big HI to everyone!!
I know I've been very irregular on our chat-pad here these days, ever since i came to india..I'm not liking this feeling of being so helplessly inaccessible to the net..anyways, eagerly logged on to the blogsite and hotmail to read details about the party, and was happy to see that it was a big success! Kudos to all the organizers for wonderfully organizing the party and to all the Vanians who attended the party inspite of the heavy rains in Mumbai that night! My heart and mind was there with u guys throughout Sept 16th..Eagerly waiting to see the pics!
I've updated the googlegroups with all the requests - Aditi, Sameer, Rajan (cancellations, email preferences, etc.)..I just got a chance to check out the latest modifications on the blogsite..great work, Arch! Enjoyed looking at all the pics..my sis Chitra and mom also joined me, and I was actually surprised at how much my sis knew about my batchmates..I remembered quite a lot of names after seeing the pics!
Like HV had suggested a few days back, its a good idea to open a separate mail account for the VV mails, so that everyone can guiltlessly send hoards of mails, without disturbing office accounts or other personal mailboxes..bcos that should'nt be a reason to reduce the interaction..Keep the torch burning!!
Cheers!
Indu..

Hi friends,
This is Sudha Mehta erstwhile Sudha Lokanathan 1989 Batch.
Walking down the memory lane was an incredible experiance.
The smell of wet earth when the schools reopen in June, the new raincoat, the muddy puddle, the overcrowded bus, the overtly rude RSP’S, Pandu, the Chowkidar (till grade 7 I thought he is a police man), the dangerous Kartha teacher a part of me still shudders when I visualize her, all the boys and girls in B division with their coconut oiled mane and girls with jasmine flowers loaded hair, cynical Gomathy teacher that lab with the skeleton i bet it must me still there in hat glass enclosure…………..and it can go on and on
Kudos to u Archana for taking this step for reuniting the batch mates, It’s a commendable job.
I bet u didn’t even know I existed then in school but my B Class friends would remember me for sure. Can anyone tell me the whereabouts of Sita lakshmi – Aanandam teachers daughter, the skinny Meena T, Sheela geeta Krishnan, Prince, Anil Nair,Suresh OMG half of the names i have forgotten i need to refer the autograoh book if at all its preserved by my parents ……….
Me I am settled in Bosnia i.e in Eastern Europe. I am married to Nikhil Mehta. I have a 7 year old daughter Nidhi.
A part of my child hood still wanders around VaniVidyalaya School
Bye for nw

Hello there
My name is RV Ramanan and I studied at Vani from 5th till 9th during years 1984-89. Any batchmates around? I am familiar with names like Jatin and Ritesh who used to be classmates. Teachers names coming to my memory are Mane, Waghle, Sheikh (guess he was the Art teacher), Kartha, Mangala..There also used to be a flute master Morey who expired in an accident. I had learnt flute (still have the 20 rupee black one)..Principal used to be S.S.Raj.
Let me know if any known contacts around please. Would be happy to get back in touch..
